Tranny Oil Change with Transynd

I'm due for my 30,000 mile tranny oil change. I was planning to go with the Transynd oil change. I stopped here in Las Vegas at the Allison dealer here and they wanted $410 to change the oil and filter. I asked why it cost so much and they told me it takes an hour and a half at $99 a labor hour. The rest of the cost was the filter and Transynd oil plus a $40 hazardous oil disposal cost.
$410 seems quite a bit for this type of service. I thought I saw posts earlier saying the cost should be about $300. Could anyone out there let me know what it should cost for this type of work?

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not sure what you mean with the cost you mention. I was looking to see what others have paid to have there oil change with Transynd. I'm seem to recall an earlier thread this year where folks were paying roughly $300 to have this service performed.
By the way, the service manager told me that I would have to have the oil change again after 25,000 miles. Then I good for a 150,000 miles before it has to be done again. I thought once you changed to Transynd, you wouldn't have to change the oil again for another 200,000.

I would appreciate any clarifications on this subject.

Yippeee...a techie question I can answer. Only because I listened in the Allison seminar at Class Reunion. When you change from regular transmission oil to Transynd, you must change it a second time after another 25,000 miles because the first change may not get all of the non-synthetic oil out of the system and the Transynd will break down just as nonsynthetic oil does. After that, you have 150,000 miles to each transmission oil change.

It cost Lazy Days $432 to get my new (to me) 2003 Allure changed over to TranSynd. They took it to Allsion to have it done.

My Transynd oil change cost me $135. Breakdown of the cost is $59.99 for the dual Gold Series Allison World Transmission filters and $75 for 2 1/2 gallons of Transynd fluid. Labor was really easy and was about 1.5 hours going nice and slow and making sure I did everything perfectly. I took the old tranny fluid to Pep Boys for free disposal.

They either did a bad job or made a pricing mistake..........

You are correct, John, that the transmission holds more than 2 1/2 gallons of fluid. If I drop out the two filters and replace them with new filters, it only takes 10 quarts to top off the transmission with Transynd fluid. If the drain plug is removed, then an additional 9 quarts of fluid is required. Allison told me that completely draining the tranny was unnecessary since the Transynd fluid has a 150,000 mile life. Since my coach was delivered with Transynd in it, draining, discarding and replacing the extra 9 quarts has no value and did not need to be done. If you have a coach that does not have Transynd in it, then you need to buy a 5 gallon bucket of fluid for the change-over to Transynd. If you do the work yourself, the job comes in at around $200 -- still a tremendous savings as compared to having an RV shop do the job, and the satisfaction of knowing the work was done perfectly.

How did you know which filters to use? 2" sump uses different filters than 4" sump. Nothing I have found indicates which sump is used.
Did you ask Allison about warranty if you did filter change & fluid change? Allison told me no problem, just save receipt, but that was just a voice on telephone. I would like to be sure of warranty, before I do change in my shop. Oh, I forgot, it is 3 feet too tall & 11 feet too long to fit my shop.
Who sells Allison gold filters @ that nice price?

Inland Truck Parts in Irving Texas sells the filter kits for $59.99. Transynd fluid is $29.25 a gallon. They also have great prices on oil, fuel and coolant filters.

You may do the job perfectly, but most of us don't unless we can do it with a screw driver and a pair of plyers. Thats all the tools I carry.
