Freezer problem

Yahoo Message Number: 13971
Our Dometic has a problem. The fridge seems to work fine as does the top of the freezer but the bottom of the freezer and the ice melt even on 5. The ice maker works and freezes the ice but it melts once it arrives in the ice container.

Any ideas?

Do you have a lot of stuff in the freezer, Tammy? If so, it could be that the air is not able to move around properly to keep stuff frozen. Learned that the hard way myself. Otherwise...it is help from from the handymen here that is needed. >>

You have an air leak around the seals. I just can't think of anything else that would cause that problem. I had that problem and called Dometic. They are very helpful, and have actually sent me repair parts for FREE.

Give them a call at 574-294-2511.

Tammy,

I do not think your refrigerator side is working properly either.
Could you put a thermometer in the refrigerator side and one in the freezer part?? Report back to the group with the readings, temperature setting and model of the refrigerator. Is your coach around a '98 model???

Fridge/Freezer update......after ou see these specs your gonna think I'm nuts.
Our Magna is a '99
The model is NDR-1282

The temp in the fridge is about 35-38 and not overloaded The temp in the freezer is close to zero on the top shelf.
The temp in the ice container is 10.
The temp in the bottom shelf is also about 10.
The ice cubes appear to be freezing because there are cubes sticking out of the block that is frozen in the container.

After all this I'm thinking the ice maker is only allowing the cubes to completely freeze in part of the cycles and intermittenly dumping water?? In our 96 Intrigue the ice maker only worked when on electicity. This one has an off/on switch. Will it try to work while on inverter?

Thanks for the assistance.

Tammy,

Your temperature readings are fine for both the freezer and refrigerator. Do you think you are interupting the cube cycle some how??? Are you able to be hooked up to shore power, uninterrupted for any length of time with the cube bale down?? Although your refrigerator on AC does not run through the inverter, your icemaker is on the inverter.

Freezer Problem
Tammy,

Sometimes the insulation between freezer & cooler gets wet causing warm freezer or condensation on mullion. With foam insulation, this problem may not be possible. Cure could be a week without cold, fridge power off, in a low humidity environment.
Cost of a new refrigerator could be less than cost of trip to Phoenix AZ.

Tammy: The fridge/icemaker is plugged into a 110 receptacle that operates only from shore power. It isn't looped through the inverter like the other wall plugs. Unless your coach is different from mine, the fridge can only operate on propane or shore power.
If you remove the fridge cover outside the coach, you will see a 110v receptacle that powers the fridge.
When you switch to inverter, that plug has no juice. (That's a technical electricians term, juice) Larry

Not true in my case. Mine makes me a lovely load of ice going down the road or anytime my inverter and water pump is on.

Mac: Ok, so I'm wrong. Dang! Here I made it almost the whole year without a mistake! Oh well.
CC must have wired the fridge to run on inverter power on other models, unless you have the fridge switch on automatic and it is running on propane? Could that be the case? Mine selects propane automatically when I unplug from shore power. When I run the generator, it selects 110 power again.
I found out because I wired my satellite antenna to utilize the fridge plug and soon found that the only way I could power the antenna was to have the coach plugged in or have the generator on.

Happy New Year
