Tow Vehicle (Toad)

New CC owner. Considering Chrysler PT Cruiser for tow vehicle. A good choice? What would be required for towing w/manual or auto transmission? Would like to hear from other PT owners.
Thanks
Butch

We have a 2005 PT convertible GT with 5sp manual and 255hp turbo charged engine. We tow it 4 wheels down with a roadmaster base plate and tow bar. You cannot tell the baseplate is on once all the hardware for towing is removed, (2 pieces; takes 5 minutes or less). Does not rack up any tow miles as odometer does not turn while transmission is in neutral. Very nice.
Good weight also; about 3600lbs. We do not use an auxilary brake with the cruiser. Have towed for 2000 miles, no problems.

In the April '04 *Consumer Reports* Annual Auto Issue, the car is listed as "Recommended" 'cause of its above average reliability. They do say, though, that "Acceleration is disappointing, especially in models equipped with an automatic transmission, and fuel economy is mediocre. The two turbocharged engines rectify the sluggish acceleration. Other drawbacks include a somewhat stiff ride and a noisy cabin." Your opinion may vary, especially if you won't be using the vehicle for long distance traveling.

We have been towing a '01 Cruiser for 3 years and love it. It is a stick shift and nothing has to be done to allow 4 down towing. Just shift to neutral and leave the ignition in off position. This requires you to leave the key in but we had a duplicate key made without the chip so the car cannot be operated with it. We also tow with a Roadmaster tow bar and baseplate and an SMI stay n play braking system. You will love this setup.
