Entry Door Corrosion

Yahoo Message Number: 14171
I was just curious as to how many others have experienced entry door corrosion problems.

I bought a 99 Allure Galley Slide 40 new, three months later I found the lower portion of the entry door with developing corrosion under the external paint. New door. Six months after that the problem re appeared. New Door, this time a new version that was to be impervious to this problem. Three months later, corrosion, up to Junction City for repair. At last count, this door problem has been addressed seven times and guess what....its corroding again.
Country Coach has agreed to re-skin the door with fiberglass.....but.

As I scanned the post's on this site I noticed many of the problems that I have experienced. Fantastic Fans.....just plan on buying new ones every few years. Drawer Slides.....just replace all of them with the metal units. Leaking Slides......watch the seal for damage, for some reason the rubber gasket likes to work it way off the slide and its a big project to replace them. Dometic "frost maker" side by side fridge.......and cracked plastic external housing (why aren't the metal). Can't forget my favorite, thermal pane window seal creep.....

The lions share of the problems that I have experienced have been caused by outside vendor issues, the low bidder if you will. The door however, really has me wondering. My best guess right now is that I will install a marine sacrificial zinc on the frame after the next replacement..

Any thoughts?
John

I also have the door paint bubbling on a 1999 Intrigue out of warranty. I have been thinking of a mural to frame and attach to the door to cover up the problem.
My hangup is what to put on the mural to make it look as classy as the otherwise pristine coach. Maybe a large script CC icon. Do you think Country Coach would be interested in paying for it for the advertising value? <grin>

John and George,

I have the same problem with the door. In looking at the photos of newbie's Intrigue, I am thinking of putting a stainless steel kick plate at the bottom of the door. Message #14108 and look at #21 photo.
One about that size will cover my problem.
John, on the fantastic fan, call them and they will help you and probably at no charge. My motor went out on the one in the kitchen area and they sent me two new motors so that I could have one for the bath room also.

George, I have had mine repainted by CC three times and I don't think that they will do it again.

Maybe if I leave it as it is and someone asks me about the coach and I would tell them that it is a great coach but there are some problems that CC is aware of but after warrantee expires- tough luck. May drive some away from CC, but then I guess that they are selling more of the top of the line coaches and making enough money. However I will contact CC again about the door and see what they will do.

Maybe one of these days we will meet somewhere on the road.

Travel safe,

Egon

John, We are second owners of a 99 Allure with Galley slide 40' with entry door corrosion. Coach number 30377. It does not seem that CC has come up with a proper fix for the corrosion problem. Interested in finding out what others have done and what may have worked.

Our '98 Intrigue has a spot of electrolysis coming through above the "bump strip" on the entry door. I'm thinking of simply applying a flat reflector as already existing further back along the side. It'll look OK, while being functional.

I wonder if the problem starts when rain water gets onto the top of the opened door and works its way down between the outer skin and whatever's under it???

FWIW, we owned an old Mobile Traveler Class C and its entire aluminum rear end was pock marked with electrolysis "zits."
