Fire from ceiling
A 120 VAC hot wire caught between junction box lip & plastic cover has been source of arcs & problems since early October.
Been seeing flashes & sparks since October without once looking directly at source. Have hoped to find source before it became an open fire. Yesterday the flash was followed by a piece of air filter falling from heat pump grill. Above heat pump grill, above hole in filter, I found a 2 X 4" electric junction box with a brown plastic cover. Label on cover is "danger high voltage". Trapped between cover & box was black hot lead to heat pump. This connection was not disturbed when heat pump was replaced.
Possibly cause of first heat pump failure? I am sure this is reason first heat pump would sometimes run, other times trip breaker on start.
Be sure your wires are not clamped against a sharp metal surface, the insulation will eventually fail.
