Toyo Tires

First a bit of history - our 2000 Magna with less than 15,000 miles had excessive wear on the two front tires. The outside treads on both were about one-fourth inch down more that the inside. Also the driver's side tire had slight cupping. There was slight vibration at highway speeds. The inflation was to about 110 psi - a few psi above that called for from a 4 pt. weight. We had two leaking air valves which we think had the front end riding low and may have been part of the problem.

The tires were rotated as recommended - two front to driver's side rear, and driver's side rear duals to the front. The front tires were balanced. We did not do alignment. The air pressure was increased to 115 psi front and 110 psi rear.
On my drive home (about 600 miles), I found the vibration to be worse than before and now the coach is pulling slightly to the right.

What now? Do I leave the tires in the current positions, rebalance and align; try a different rotation, rebalance and align; or junk the worn Toyos and put two new tires on the front? My closet truck tire shop handles Goodyear and Dunlop and, of course, say they have a better tire.

Hello Tom,

ALIGNMENT! I would have your ride hieght checked first then have it aligned. Sometimes breaknig the bead on the front tires and rotating them 180 degrees then a rebalance will cure a vibration problem as well. Thats my 2 cents,

I'll give you my experience but not much help I'm afraid. My '00 Magna had the same problem you describe. The front tires were worn excessively after 22K miles. One was cupping. I had them balenced and swapped which made the problem worse. I then had the front end checked and it had a 3/4 in. tow-in. The align shop said I should get new tires as soon as possible. I was in Fresno, CA and could only find one Toyo in Fresno. I said to hell with it and bought two Michelins (sp). They gave me fifty bucks apiece for the old Toyos.
The front end was bottoming out on very small bumps so I took it to Beaudry's in Tuscon. They found a bad valve and bad regulator in the rear air bag system and replaced them and adjusted the height. Every thing worked fine for another few thousand miles. Now the front end is bottoming out again and the coach won't level up in travel position. Country Coach has been good to me for the last few years.
I have owned three CC's. They are not much help any more since Bob Lee retired. I'll take it back to Beaudry's and give it another try.
By the way my card says 100 psi in front and 90 in the rear. rvhfy in NM
