looking at inspire

hi all, we just sold our motorhome and are shopping for a new one.anybody have any positive or negatve comments on the cc inspire? thanks.....roy

Hi Roy,

I like my Inspire. The only thing I don't like about it at all is the CCC. If you decide on an Allure, you can get a tag axel and double the amount of "stuff" you can pack along on trips or, as in my case, if you decide to full time you will be able to carry more of the necessities of life.

The Inspire has a lot of nice details for an "entry level" DP and I'd recommend it to anyone so long as you are good at traveling light.

We bought a new 2005 Inspire 40ft DaVinci in September from Buddy Gregg in Lewisville, Texas. So far we love it. Easy to drive and has all the accessories that we need. We have had very few problems and all were minor (repair of an window shade that fell, a furnace connection, and hot water heater ignition problem). Buddy Gregg was great to work with and speedy on all repairs.

We just took delivery of a new 05 Inspire Genoa. We love i, and specially the extra foot wheel base which gives you a bigger bedroom (with real end tables) and an extra 12" width in the pass-through storage basements.

We purchased a new 2004 Inspire DaVinci, CC #51078 in November a year ago and for the most part love it.
The coach rides great, carries everything we need to carry including our office. We have two computers, built in desks and a Motosat Datastorm on top to stay online and conduct business. We stay on the road 2 to 3 months at a time when we go out to visit clients.

My only complaint with the coach, and I wonder if anyone other Inspire owner is having the same problem, is that during the daytime, the warning lights on the dash, the lights behind the black panel, are so dim that they cannot be seen. My major concern is that the Inspire does not have a low air audible warning, so if a sudden loss of air pressure were to occur, it is impossible to see the red light low air indicator light if it were to come on during the daytime. Means I'm constantly looking at the air pressure gauge to make sure all is ok.

Since I'm a Transportaion Safety Specialist and travel the country doing seminars on safety issues to trucking companies, bus companies, etc., the fact that the Inspire has no audible low air warning device is somewhat troublesome.
I have talked to CC about the problem, and their response has pretty much been, "not much that can be done about it". I've tried putting slightly brighter bulbs in and it hasn't helped. The black panel in front of the lights is just too black to allow the lights to be seen during the day.

Just as an aside, I'm surprised that the Inspire does not have a audible low air warning device especially since on commercial vehicles the Department of Transportation (DOT) has required them for many years as a safety issue. Even though CC looks at the Inspire as a "entry level coach", it is still a bit shocking that they would decide to save on such an important safety item.

Any else have this problem with dash lights? Just biding my time till we move up to an Intrigue......you can't beat a Country Coach.

I've brought the same issue to the attention of every CC tech and employee with whom I've had contact. Brought it up at last year's Class Reunion. Same response...almost a lackadaisical, who cares? kind of 'tude. Its almost as if they don't care....or they think we are nuts to bring it up at all. Guess we need to keep banging in the issue until they do something. Squeaky wheel.

I'm not familiar with the Inspire Dash, but if you have access to the bulb and it's holder, why not splice in a seperate light and place on the dash, such as a round flush mount. Or splice in a buzzer instead.

I'm in the trucking business and although a complete loss of air is a rarity, it does happen and the lights/buzzer at least will give you enough time to pull over before the brakes come on automatically. Being a Pilot, I just scan the gauges probably every minute, an unconscious habit burned into my brain and uncontrollable.

I totally agree with you, but CC owners shouldn't worry themselves over this. A catastrophic air failure, hose or tank, may deplete the air so quickly that the warning light/buzzer wouldn't do much good anyway, the brakes are COMING ON. Also, there is redundancy in the system with Aux/Rear/Front tanks.

My wife and I were discussing the theory if there was a Hell ? we decided that owning that Fleetwood product we had before might be Hell ? When we bought the Fleetwood I said ?It would be a cold day in Hell? before I bought another coach ? We bought the Inspire on a whim so that proves the theory that Hell is frozen over and extinct. If that is true than the reverse corollary must be true ? there is a divine being and explains why after I started driving the Inspire all I could say over and over was, ?Oh my God!?
It might not be quite that divine ? but we really like our Inspire.

I had the same fears that Bill had and the same problem with very dim lamps on the

dash of my 02 Intrigue. You made very good points about the reliability of todays

air systems, makes me fell a little better about a failure and having time to react.

I added an alarm by using two diodes (1N4004) and a Radio Shack electronic buzzer. Made the connections at the air switches as they were much easer to

get at then the lamp wires behind the dash.
And related to Carol's comments about this issue. I'm sure that all CC folks

have to take a special class on how to look bemused and act lackadaisical before

they are allow to attend Rallies and interact with coach owners..

Thanks. The lights are behind the dash board behind the black panel, it is the individual lights that can't be seen during the day, such as bright headlight indicator, low air warning, engine brake engaged, etc. It's just that the black panel is a tad too dark. At night, it's not a problem everything can be see.
I am going to splice in an audible low air warning light, just haven't gotten around to it. You are correct, catastrophic loss of air is a rarity, but being in the transportation safety business for the past 30 years.....well, guess I'm just used to the redundancy. And then, like you, I scan the instruments constantly so for me it really isn't a problem, but for others, who may be new to air systems, diesel engines, etc., it could be.

We had a 2000 Discovery - Every time I had a chance to talk to a Discovery owner I would ask them if they had any problems - majority had problems but think some wouldn't admit to it - some even had more problems than we had - but they still liked their Discovery - I think they were a glutton for punishment - my very scientific and mathematically unflawed survey - represents a +/- error rate of 6.75% of the Discovery population - Before that we had an American Eagle - it was better - but for some reason it would just die and we would need to pull off to the side of the road - we didn't have it very long because the wife wanted slides. I will never have another Fleetwood product - not only because of the shoddy product - but also because of Fleetwood service help. A friend of mine has a Revolution - he doesn't like it either.

The day somebody (hopefully never) has an accident and a contributing cause is a warning, such as loss of air brake failing, and CC had actual notice of the potential flaw with the warnings, they may find themselves on the wrong side of a nasty lawsuit.
Unfortunately, sometimes that is what it takes for a manufacturer to resolve known safety issues instead of chucking them to the cost of doing business. By no meane I am implying that CC falls in that category. I hope not.
