Foretravel sold

This may be of little interest to most CC owners, but to those of us who are just RV enthusiasts, it's an interesting event. The article can be found by doing a "sale of Foretravel motorhome company" search on Google. The address was too long to write down. Still don't know who the buyer is.

For those of us who enjoy dry camping in a high line coach ForeTravel is of great interest since CC now seems to have a propensity for all electric coaches. The Foretravel web site reported the following:

The new management team include Mr. Lyle Reed, Frisco, Texas, former president and CEO of Chicago, Central and Pacific Railroad. Reed completed a 30 year career in the railroad industry in 1996. Reed is joined in this endeavor by Dr. Dane Miller, President and CEO of Biomet, Inc. a leading designer and manufacturer of medical implants, headquartered in Warsaw, Indiana. The other member of the group is Mr. Gregory Amys, Lake Nebagamon, Wisconsin. Amys is a former business executive and longtime associate of Reed.

Does anyone know what lead to this event??

Been following this issue. The Fore family, who has owned the company for about 30 years, ran in to cash flow problems. They were slow to adjust to the market on several issues: slides, full & multi colored paint & interiors. They closed their factory sales stores and set up a franchise sales system. Sales dropped and they missed payroll.
They got to the point where their suppliers wouldn't ship needed supplies to build the coaches. The new owners are known for turning around a railroad. Up in the air at this time is whether their ownership is longterm or will be repackaging the company for resale.

For about 2 years now Fortravel has been having serious cash flow problems. Their sales have been down and they have had to lay off many of their employees. They even had to shut down the factory two or three times for about a month (or more). Ray Fore has been struggling to get financing, and many of the suppliers have refused to provide product without payment up front. The Fore family even eliminated company owned sales centers and went (struggled to get) independent distrubutors. Lyle Reed is a Fortravel owner, loves it, and he put together a team to invest and take control of the company (with Ray Fore's blessing) and rebuild it to what it once was.

Authur,

We have our first all electric CC and we have loved how well it dry camps. We have dry camped 3 times for 7 days each and the gen set ran less then with our 01 Magna..And we love the home type frig, you can keep the door open and look around without worring about it warming up. The new toilet can be adjusted so you use little water. On our last dry camping for 6 days at FMCA in Brooksville, fl, .we used 60 gallons of water and showered each day.

Bill,

How often do you need to use your generator when dry camping? How low do you allow your battery voltage to drop before recharge?
When we were out in Junction City and toured the Magna line - we asked the guide how does one dry camp with a Magna. Her response "Magna owners usually travel from one resort campground to another".
A compressor refrigerator has many advantages, but it needs about 340 watts all day (and night) - not to mention the electric stove and toilet. Water is not an issue. My wife and I are thinking of upgrading from our Intrigue, but we think a new Magna would not be a good choice.

Thanks for your advice - I look forward to your response

Lem,

If you have the electronic toilet, near the floor in the back is a switch.
When you change the position of the switch, the water only runs while holding down the flush button. Using this will really extend dry camp stays.

Authur,

We have the new toilet that is in the Magna. It works on a small electronic pad mounted on the cabinet above the toilet. Behind the pad in the cabinet is a small dial that can be turned to adjust the water from nothing to a full toilet. Can't tell you the brand because my coach is at Lazy Days getting the cooling system modified and we are at home 50 miles away.

My guess is that it's a TECMA toilet, just like what's in the Allure 31176.

Dial is behind the control panel, which has to be removed to get to the adjustment on the Allure, and the fill of the toilet bowl can be adjusted...but that's about all you can adjust that I can find. The flush cycle still uses about .75 of a gallon on each flush, even if adjusted to low....so on average that's about 30-40 flushes before full...actually, not very many...

If someone knows of another adjustment, please let us know......
