replacing batteries

Hi,

The batteries in my '99 Intrigue are original. The house batteries need to be replaced since they don't hold a charge for long. The starter battery shows no sign of weakness but I think its time has also come. I'm considering Optima AGMs as a replacement. What do you all think? Should I stay with regular batteries or go to AGM. Anyone have a source for batteries at a good price?

Bill, you are lucky that you got that many years out of your regular house batteries. Mine would would would only last about two years and then needed replacement.

When the batteries on my '99 Allure went out after 2 years I replaced them with the Life Line batteries and had to replace the chassis battery last summer again with Life Line ones. They are a little pricy but I figured that if I had to do all the maintanence on them and then only last two years go for the Life Line ones with no maintanence and the house batteries have gone for four years and still going strong. Regular batteries would have been replace once already so I figure taht I am ahead in the game.

I just replaced the original house batteries and original generator battery in my coach. Given how long they lasted, I decided I did not need to spend the extra money on high tech replacement batteries. I did replace the two 8D 12v house batteries with four Trojan 6V batteries based on advice from several sources including this message board.

I have AGM's in my '04 Intrigue. Was just thinking....I believe you need a "special" charging system for AGMs. You might investigate further with someone else more knowledgeable. I know our inverter panel has a special setting for AGMs. You might check to see if yours offers that option in the battery-type listing. I'm learning that not all battery types are equal in the charge department.

I can only speak to the system I have. That is, a Heart 2000 (now Xantrex) with a remote control panel. As part of the control panel set up there are programming functions that have to be set for different battery types. The charge rates are different for each and must be observed. Or, you may shorten the life of your batteries. With my system the manual for the remote control panel is very clear as to the setup procedures.
