Keyless Entry Wire Breakage

Yahoo Message Number: 16535
We have an 03 Intrigue and the wire running to the door that controls the alarm and keyless entry system is slowly breaking from opening and shutting the door. Our friends with an 03 also have this problem only theirs is now severed so their keyless system doesn't work. Has any one else experienced this and found a long term resolution?

To unsigned post,

Yep, been there, done that. The door jamb hole is plastic and too small. Sharp edges of this hole is what cuts the wires. Auger it out without further damaging the wires. Then pull as much wire as possible from inside the door. This should give you enough room to work. Cut all the wires (four I think) and slip a 3-4 inch piece of shrink tubing over the wires and rejoin all wires with solder. Shrink the tubing over the solder joints and push back into the door as far as possible. Now fill the door jamb hole with silcone caulk and let dry. This will give you a bit of flex on the door jamb side while the wires into the door itself will move in and out with the door opening and closing. The shrink tubing should enter the door jamb hole and penetrate the door far enough that exposed wires will not be visable when the door is open. Don't know how long term the fix is but it looks like it should last a long time.

Yep. I had the same problem with my 2003 Allure! Had to re-splice the wires where they go through the door and frame.

We had the same problem on our 2003 Allure. It was repaired three times under warranty. The first time we had to call a locksmith at Lake Powell. Then we asked CC to replace our system with the four metal contact system (four on the door and four on the jamb) that is used on the Inspire. Fred Brooks at Beaudry did the installation. No more problems. Last October we bought a 2004 Intrigue. The wire was almost broken through at that time so we asked Beaudry to install the Inspire system on our new coach. It works perfectly.
