Pac Brake Effectiveness

I know that my Pac brake cycles (at least during ignition off/on test I see the piston and level move), but I don't believe it is as effective as it should be -- maybe an internal or leak problem???? Most/all of the effect of the Pac brake activating seem so come from the automatic downshift to 4th gear when it engages. If I am already in 4th gear, I feel nothing or almost nothing.
So, I would love for someone to perform the following test with their PAC BRAKE and report the result:

While driving on a level street in 4th gear, at say 50 mph, take your foot off the accellerator, then turn on the Pac brake switch. What effect do you notice? How does it compare to just coasting? Maybe compare timings, with and without Pac brake, on slowing from 50 to 30 mph.

If there is a difference, then my next testing will be to open the hatch in the bedroom, and watch the Pac brake operate while my wife drives the coach doing the above test.

Herb, I suggest one more item to check. I had a 97 Intrigue that acted just like you describe yours is doing, and we found that the air line to the PacBrake had been routed over the exhaust pipe at the factory and had burned in two. All I was getting was the effect of the downshift in the tranny. Replacing and re-routing the air line corrected the problem.

On my 95, there is a little relief valve between the actuator cylinder and the air line coming from the soleniod. This relief valve was hitting something nearby (I think it was the oil filter) and the threaded connection broke. No exhaust brake. I fixed it and readjusted so it wouldn't touch anything. There are plenty of potential areas for problems under there. You should definitely feel that brake come on and off.
