Replaceing bad front sway bar bushings

Yahoo Message Number: 16682
Greetings,

I have new bushings for the front sway bar of my CC Allure #30694 '02 that I plan to replace myself. Has anyone tried this and should I know something more than my being mechanically savy and not afraid to tackle MH repairs. Do I need to have the front end up on jacks or stands or can the stud nuts and bushings be removed while the coach is resting on air bags?

We have lived full time in our coach for over three years now and it has 20K miles and already one bushing on each side has worn down to nothing....strange for the low miles but is causing a bump noise when on rolling freeway or going over freeway pavemant joints.
Got a new set from CC and want to get them replaced and back to normal.

Any information is appreciated.
TIA

Hmmm! No I have never done this, but am wondering about the "bump" noise. I just recently developed a bump noise after I lubed the chassis. When I apply the brakes while trying to slow down through the toll roads, I hear a moderate bang on the left side. Just wondering how you isolated it to the bushings? Are the bushings those white plastic-looking things? Maybe this is why the book says to retorque the suspension 6K (?) miles after it is new? Am interested to find out how it turns out.

Simple DIY job as long as the bushing rod threads are still ok and if so you don't have to replace the rods, just the bushings. You do not have to lift the coach for this but be sure it's safe to crawl under there to do the job. If any one of the bushings on either side, top or bottom, is totally gone or well worn then yes you can get a bump sound due to the bushing rod hitting the sway bar. I have replaced mine twice. Not sure why they ware out but I went with hard bushings and locking nuts from NAPA this last time to see if they will last any longer. I would think we put a lot of stress on the sway bar and this may be the reason they get loose and when lose they will break or ware out a bushing. IMO, this is not a big safety issue unless the bushing rod were to snap into due to wear from the bushings being bad.

For those who want to check theirs. Just turn your wheels to one direction and you can look under there at the sway bar and if a top or bottom bushing is missing, loose, or worn you will see it.
