Synthetic Allison Fluids.

To All,

If you do not do coach maintenance push page down now.
Yes, the Allison left factory with TranSynd installed & does not need new TranSynd for many miles. No, the cheapest way is not my way. I try to minimze costs while keeping best available.

Your Allison transmission needs one filter changed after first 5000 miles. The filter is accessed from bottom of Allison, so some ATF is spilled. Allison wants new ATF used to replace spilled ATF. About 3 quarts for one filter change, about 9 quarts for the other filter.
Allison sells kits of 2 "Gold" filters with the seals to install them & Allison offers a long warranty if we play nice. Replacing both filters, inspecting both used filters, will make me feel safer.

Allison has qualified other sources for synthetic ATF. BP makes TranSynd for Allison, so I assumed BP Autran Syn 295 is TranSynd. BP sold me a 5 gallon bucket of Autran Syn 295 for $137.7. Add less than $17 for UPS to deliver the 5 Gallons to my door. Bucket is minimum size.
I expect to lose about 12 quarts in changing both filters. That will leave 2 gallons for future use.

You may order Autran Syn 295 from BP Corp. Call 800-888-4448. Ask to purchase Autran Syn 295 on account # 512823, a generic credit card account. In 5 gal bucket, cost was $136.70 + First person that answered phone took order!

When seeking a fluid for your Allison transmission that is TES 295 approved do not fall to the claims of some companies that claim that their product is TES-295 approved. The statements infer that these products "are designed to meet", "are equivalent to", "meet or exceed", etc. When determining whether or not a fluid is TES-295 approved, look and/or ask for one of two things:

Filter Kit 29540493 fits HD3000MH with 2" sump. $59.99. I bought real Allison filter kits from Inland Truck Parts & Service. Phone 800.899.8726.

Different subject... CC put a FS1212 fuel - water separator filter before engine per Caterpillar requirements. To be effective, the separator must have water drained from it before it is full. Tired of piddling fuel on frame & ground, I wanted a filter with sight bowl.
Inland Truck supplied a fuel filter with sight bowl & drain valve on bottom to see if water is in fuel without piddling fuel on frame & ground. FS1242 filter with bowl $18. FS1242 without re-usable bowl $9. Original filter was also FS1212.
