To shift or not to shift....that is the question

When you talk to the Allison/Cummins tech's at the Rallies, they tell you to put your foot in it and go!
Personally, I prefer to down shift with the arrow when the RPM drops and I see a long grade or want to keep the RPM up and back out of the throttle in extra hot weather.
If you read the Silverleaf manual, it talks about "managing" the temperature. I manage it by downshifting when it seems prudent. Notwithstanding the computer's settings. Higher RPM's , less throttle pressure and slower speeds will let you put the temperature right where you want it. If you lug down a hot engine, it will get hotter.
Analog gauges are far from accurate. A Silverleaf is the best thing since sliced bread.
Old gear jammers just can't resist the temptation to want to down shift. In the old days, you had to manage temperatures by watching the tachometer, pyrometer, (exhaust temp) and water temp. Thank heaven for technology, now if you want to put your foot in it and go, go for it! The choice is yours.
