Getting the Word OUT

I've tried a number of times to get a notice posted in the "Destinations" Magazine and it has not happened. I think CC is a little hesitant about our group. We should be able to have a notice in the magazine because we pay dues and CC claims it is our magazine.

Maybe some of you could help put a little light pressure on CC.

Also, could you spread the work about the CCO group at your rallies and meetings that your might attend. We have grown from a hand full to a respectable 236 members.

We are in sunny AZ getting rained on and the temp is 44, but love it.

By for now,
AL

I have a question regarding cooling fan on 99 magna with 350 cummins ISC.
Whenever I am in a dusty area, it looks like 'desert storm'. Has anyone had any experience in cutting speed back on cooling fan, and if so what is the procedure? Obviously, its something I wouldnt consider if I thought it might void the warranty on the engine or cause other problems.

thanks

We will have a great opportunity to "drop the word" next month in Tucson - Don't you think? I assume that you will be there so we all meet the start-up guru of the little but growing group.
Where are you in AZ Al? Yes it is cool and a bit rainy but I have not seeh a snow shovel in my park yet!!

There was a small modification available (under warranty) for my '99 Intrigue (Cummins 350 ISC) that slowed down the cooling fan under certain circumstances. It made a huge difference.

Jim,

There are three sensors that control the fan. In our case the intake air sensor was defunct causing the fan to run at full speed at all times, even when the engine was first started. Very dusty in campgrounds, expensive on fuel and, worst of all, in the chilly north here, coolant temperature never exceeded 135 in 30 degree ambient.

Hope this helps.

There is a kit available from Country Coach consisting of two fittings to replace the orifices in one of the two hydraulic fluid lines to the fan. I replaced the fittings myself. It is a simple job and quite effective. Not only does it slow down the fan but also increases the mpg. I also have a 350isc in an Intrigue 1999. The fan has a thermovalve which adjusts the fan speed as needed if the coolant temperature exceeds 185 degrees.

Al,

Do you have a suitable email address for Country Coach, e.g.
letters_to_the_editor@... or similar? If you do, please publish it on the board here and I for one will write to them recommending that they do promote the group as a valuable, independent resource for their customers and potential customers to exchange ideas and experiences. On the other hand, if they can't take a little criticism or feel they would not fare well in product comparisons, shame on them and shame on us for supporting such company.

I am having a similar problem with my 2000 Allure. One switch was replaced and this fix kept the fan off until it got to 180 degrees.
However, the fan would only operate on the low speed. One a hill the temp would go up to 220 degrees. They replaced another controller that tested defective. The coach is back for repair as the problem still exists. To drive the coach, I learned that by disconnecting the 6 pin electrical connecter at the rear of the radiator, the system will default to high speed of the cooling fan. I am interested to learn what the problem really is.

what is your magna coach number, i have coach 5611 and my fan would never run unless the engine got hot and the ac needed the cooling but since the egine was not calling for the fan i ran high head temperature on ac compressor, so they installed a relay that turns the high speed fan on any time the comprressor switch is on and now I have a dust storm . In the past I never had the problem but they did warn me that when they turned the fan on with the ac that it would cause the dust storm but I can always turn off the ac compressor when at slow speeds and on dusty roads and campgrounds.

my coach is 5655. Im getting a lot of double talk from the factory regarding this issue. There seems to be a lot of confusion. They claim they are not installing the modification they had done for a while because it was causing high head pressure and popped ac lines.
As far as I know, i thought the fan was ALWAYS running..but I'll see if it doesnt when the AC is off. CC did say there was a modification (non warranty of course) that may help and they would send me info on it. This summer I went into a campground in Maine and in the few short seconds I was pulling into the site, I put up a dustcloud that made me think I was in the desert. The adjacent campsites were none too happy.

The solution to the fan blowing up the dust and filling your air cleaner, in my estimation, would be to fully enclose the fan. It now extends out of its enclosure by a couple inches. I questioned Country Coach service and they were afraid that enclosing it would cavitate the fan. So, I installed the kit to slow down the fan and now live with it. After coming off the highway it will kick up dust for a minute until the coolant cools back down. By the way, there was a long thread on another newsgroup about fans on Freightliner chassis kicking up dust. Freightliner designed a retrofittable fan enclosure for them. Or at least, gave their blessing for the owners to make one.
