stick shift tow cars?

Anyone out there have a good stick shift tow vehicle that they would recommend that is not real pricey?

Ford Focus ZX5 (5 door). We have a 2003 and love it. Tows 4-down. Holds 4 comfortably, even our tall brother-in-law and gets great fuel mileage. Has a hatchback to hold things for overnight trips. Does not register mileage when towed. No special fix except tow brackets. We had them installed at camping world. Just put in neutral and go. Very lightweight vehicle. Never know it's back there.

Well, we like our little Jeep Wrangler Sport. Just put the transfer case in neutral, the tranny in 5th, make sure the steering wheel is unlocked -- and off you go. No mileage registers. When we get somewhere - we can play!

I don't know how you define "not real pricey," but we have two stick shift toads. A '98 Subaru Forester, worth maybe $8K and an '89 Acura Integra, worth maybe $2K. Neither has speed/distance tow limitations. I'd drive either one of 'em coast to coast tomorrow, but the advantage of the Subaru is that it's all-wheel-drive, as are all Subarus. However, while the Subaru gets ~25mpg, the Integra gets ~30mpg. Both on "cheap" 87 octane.

Because Jeep says to. Should the transfer case ever re-engage (can't see how that could happen), the tranny would be in its highest gear, thus minimizing engine damage????? I don't know why they don't recommend just putting it into neutral, but they don't. I just follow the instructions from the video and the owner's manual and have never had a problem. Sweet pulling little rig. Pretty much a two person vehicle, although you can take four for short distances (like shopping or restaurant in nearby town).

I recommend a Subaru Forester, I have a 2003 that I have towed for several thousand miles and it has done great. Easy install of the tow plates, no modification except the plastic bottom engine splash shield. Put the key to acc, tranny in neutral, brake off and tow away.
It has unlimited tow speed, or any type of mile limit and it does not add miles while towing. It has 49,000 on her and the front tire wear is not a problem.
