We are in the process of designing our new home and would like to have the RV garage attached to it. My only experience with an attached RV garage was several years ago when we went to look at a coach for sale prior to buying this one. When the coach was started for a test drive, diesel smoke and fumes engulfed the entire garage - RV plus about two or three cars worth of space while it warmed up so that it could be driven.

What suggestions does anyone have, short of partitioning the RV part off, to deal with this smoke and fume thing?

Hi Glen,

I built an RV garage attached to our house. You can get 20-24 inch exhaust fan placed high on the wall opposite the overhead door. I back the coach into the garage and the exhaust pipe is not too fan away from the fan. That works well for me. Just make sure that you get a fan that can move a high volume of air and that has external gravity metal door panels. The panels will raise up when the fan is running and drop down and close when it is off. I put a speed control on mine so that I can slow it down when needed. But most of the time I run it a full speed. I ordered the fan from W.W.Grainger on line, sorry I don't have the web site.
I'm up in Copper Harbor, MI as I write this note. The campground is getting WIFI installed as I write, but it may be a few days before this note gets sent. Copper Harbor (most northern point in Michigan's U.P.) is a great place to visit, but very "remote".

Safe travels and good luck with the construction process.

I have also seen systems in Fire Houses that attach a hose to the exhaust and the hose travels on a rail and drops off as the vehicle exits the facility. Your solution is less expensive and less complicated.

I retired for the second time on 30 June, and hope to start traveling again. Give our best to your spouse and have a great summer!
