Hi all,

Has anyone replaced the awning spring in a Carefree Omega II awning. I am looking for some guidance and tips.

Thanks,

Don,

Yes I have changed out a broken spring on my living room slide out awning along with lots of other repairs to the main awning and the over the door awning. The Carefree stuff is nothing but junk. All of this on a fairly new garaged coach with minimal use. I can help in fixing the 12volt over the door, omega and the mirage main awning.
If you have a 21 ft mirage main awning and it only has to 2 spring arms, it needs a 3rd arm. If you have a 12volt over the door awning, you must drill a drain hole for the motor or it will rust and fail.

If you want, e-mail and I'll be glad to help. We're in New Orleans for a few days and it may take a little time for me to get back to you.I posted all these problems with solutions before, but no one seemed to care. I hope most have Garard or Zip Dee!

Tom,

I agree the CareFree stuff is junk - been RVing for 30 years and never had such trouble with awnings - what was CC thinking?.
Hopefully I won't need to replace a spring but I would appreciate detailed info on both solutions when you get the chance.

As I ready to leave Santa Fe New Mexico I climb up on the drivers slide to see what was wrong with my awning. Carefree called and sent manuals but the detail does not shown how the "topper" mechanism works. What happens is that the slide comes out it pushes on the mechanism that raises the topper so water will not stand. In my case the wind pulled the travelers out to the tracks. No prints and no input from Carefree I simple place the two travelers back on the track. Well during another storm one stayed the other did't. Got up there and fixed it again.

I will call CC to see what I need to do, or call CareFree when I get home to get a local repair facility.
If you have this awning and have not had this problem, be ready. If you have and have had it fixed let me know. I am thinking about changing brands and get a better hold down. Anyone out there have any suggestions. I am not complaining by the way, I was in one hell of a wind storm, but then again that is when a good design works.

If you change and want the best try zip dee. Cost more but worth the cost.
