Tires - 6" Extensions - OEM

If you remove the 6" extensions (with rubber groumet) that came on your coach for the inside tire, throw them away. I recently had the rear tires off for balance and three days later, both rear inside tires were flat. The extensions have a tiny rod that actuates the valve and if over tightened, will hold the valve open just enough to lose your air over time. The seal was also brittle on both extensions.

I replaced with a short 2" steel auto extension (no cap needed) that we use on the big trucks. You can get them at any auto parts store.
Don't use the plastic ones.

Also, if your inside wheel valve stem can't be accessed because it's at a bad angle, simply let most of the air out of your tire and loosen the stem nut and turn the stem so it's straight. When you look through the hole, it should be dead straight and in the middle.
A little hard to do while mounted, but it can be done if your wrist is flexible.

I guess I just don't understand all the complications involved of the highly technical function of adding or checking air pressure!

Tom,

What I don't understand is why add the 2" extensions.
You have your inside valve dead straight center with the hole. Why not just leave it alone?

None of these after market products meets the "risk/reward" test.
Lots of risk with little reward.

Valve extenders (like a thru hull fitting on a boat) works really great, until it doesn't and then what a mess.

Leaving the stem and core unprotected without a cap is asking for big time trouble. Taking the cap off each time to check pressure on the inside tire is not fun, hense the reason for the short auto extentsion. I have had no problem with short quality steel extensions and my 02 CC Allure came with them from the factory. I'm kind of anal about checking tires (30 yrs in the trucking business) and between me and the SmartTire, I don't worry about the extension.

Thanks, that sounds reasonable to me. I knew you had a reason, I just didn't know what it was.
I never gave the caps much thought, since none of my rear tires came with caps from the factory.
