Ice maker

Hi everyone. I'm looking for a little insight on Dometic Refrigerators with ice maker. Mine has worked flawlessly for nearly seven years now. On a recent three-week trip through the Northwest my icemaker won't churn out any ice.
I've pulled the cover on the circuit board and the only visible potential items are the fuses. Both are alright.
Has anyone had any experience with non-working ice makers? It looks like the circuit board and solenoid are the only serviceable parts.
Someone suggested cleaning or replacing the water inlet solenoid. I haven't done that yet. It seems that the system would still go through it's cycle even if the water was not entering the unit. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hello Larry; We have had several occasions where our icemaker has stopped producing ice cubes. After much experimentation, I think we figured it out. I'll give you the background story and you can see if this helps you...

Over the past three years of full time RVing, we have had the fortune of camping next to several people who really helped us with their "stories". One gentleman told us of a time when he returned home and opened his front door to a flood of a foot of water pouring out of his bus. He told us that the lesson learned was to ALWAYS shut off the water every time we leave the coach. We even saw a 32' CC at Lazydays that had been flooded by a broken water line in the ice maker! So ever since that time, we have always shut off the water when we leave the coach. Surprisingly, about a month ago, we were sleeping in the coach and all of a sudden we heard this loud POP and a rushing of water that quickly dumped about 5 gallons of water in the potty room. I rushed outside in the pitch black night in my underwear and shut off the water quickly while my wife threw every bath towel we had on the floor to soak up the 5 gallons of water. Turns out we broke a water connection fitting on the back of the toilet. I can imagine that we could have easily had a foot of water in the coach in just a short time had we not been sleeping in there and taken quick action to stop the problem.

So what does all this background have to do with an ice maker you may ask?

Well, when we started the process of ALWAYS turning off the water when we left the coach, we noticed that occasionally the ice maker would stop functioning until we defrosted the freezor, then it would start up again. After several instances of this happening, we think we solved the mystery. When we shut off the water, there is some residual pressure in the water line. So then if the ice maker dumps and refills, it uses the residual pressure to fill the ice tray and everything works OK. BUT, if we were gone for a long time, the residual pressure would all be "used" and then when the ice maker would ask for water, there was none there, and the few droplets in the end of the fill tube in the ice maker would freeze solid. So from that point forward, we would not have any ice at all. Then when we would defrost the freezor, the line would thaw and our ice maker would work perfectly again.

So now, every time we leave the coach, we turn off the ice maker AND shut off the external water supply too. We have never had any problems using this process and the ice maker has worked flawlessly since starting this process.

Maybe you can learn something from our "story" to help you figure out an answer to your problem.

Hi Bob,

This is our first RV and we know so little about it. Is there any place to kill the water inside the RV? How do you turn off the ice-maker, other than to raise the baler?

Hello Gary;

Every RV is different, so I can only speak for my 2003 Intrigue model, but I would guess your Inspire is similar to mine.
The only place to turn off the water to my coach is at the source... the valve at the campground "post".
You can turn off the water to the ice maker in two ways... the easiest and quickest is to lift the baler arm inside the freezor. In case of a rupture in the ice maker tubing, you can also shut off the water to the ice maker in the back of the refrigerator by shutting the valve that suppliers water to the icemaker.

The icemaker in the motorhome is likely to be the same as the one in your house. There used to be only three typesof ice makers, and they are are all house models. If you can repair one at home....you can repair it in the motorhome also. There is a needle valve at the back of the refrigerator, accessed from the compartment door outside. You can shhut off the water sluppy there.

Gary,

On my 2004 Inspire, the shut-off valve for the ice-maker is located under the refrigerator. Remove the two drawers under the refrigerator and you will see a shut-off valve that leads to the in- line filter and then to the ice-maker. Turn that valve clock-wise to stop the flow of water to the ice-maker. As others have indicated you may also lift the ice-maker bar to the up position.

I know I hav seen something about this in the past, but, Mine was working fine at the time so........
How do you adjust the waterlevel in the ice maker? I have the Norcold 1200 and it appears you have to remove the icemaker to remove the cover on it.

Ran into the same problem. The end cap that faces you as you look at the icemaker from the front pries off. There's two screwdriver slots in the bottom. Under that, there's a screw that faces to the left.
In the cover is an instruction page in a plastic sleeve. If I recall correctly, I turned the screw one half turn and that solved the problem.
