Front Hub Covers

Yahoo Message Number: 18365
Need advise. Removed my front hub caps to check hub oil. When trying to to put the caps back they would not stay on. After several attempts I thought they were on, only to find out that they came loose and were lost during travel. CC said they were aware of this problem and replaced the caps. Also said they were running short on them because of this problem.

These were easier to get on, but came off during travel again. Has anybody else had this problem, and what was done to solve or eliminate the constant loss of hub caps?

Thanks
Butch

Butch,

So far I have not had a problem with my front caps coming off. I did notice that the caps have slots on the inside that must be lined up with tabs. Also, I believe you can get the caps on without doing this alignment, but would probably not be as secure.
Best of luck,

Butch,

I assume the covers are the same as my 04 Allure and I have lost several over the years with different Coaches. The little tabs that hold them seem to get weak and they just fly off. Don't deal with CC on these, they are a standard item on the big trucks and can be had for about 9.00 at any good sized truck stop. Just replaced one last month for 8.95. Just make sure you get the correct ones, there are two different styles, I think one has 4 cut outs and the other 5.

Butch,

Yes, I have experienced the same problem on my 2004 Inspire. Lost one cover. Purchased two replacement covers from truck stop store.
Make sure you take the old to match it up as they are not all the same. When I re-installed the cover I use a small amount of clear silicon sealer at four spots around the cover. I have not lost another cover and it has been approximately two years. You can also purchase a cover with a hole in the center that allows you to view the hub lube level. I elected not install that type because I thought it would allow water to collect around the hub. Hope this info is of some help.

Has anyone found a source for the tiny metal tabs that hold the front hub caps in place. Mine are starting to rust and I'd like to replace them with new ones before I lose a cap.

Hi Bob,

Flying J has the hub caps and tabs - $3 for both.

Butch: We just went thru trying to replace a lost hub on our 2000 Allure. At the time we were passing thru Ogden, Utah. I had better luck taking in the remaining front hub to find a match cuz there are several look-a-likes. Pilot Truck Plaza had a good selection but none with 4 cutouts like ours.

I found the best replacement at Home of Chrome (801)392-5296 in Ogden.
Cost was approx. $7.00. It matched the 4 slots and tabs plus had a slightly wider flange by about 1/8".
During this search I also found what appeared to be a match at 6- States Distributors ((801)621-8772 in Ogden that sells truck parts.
The one from Home of Chrome is still on. Good hunting.
