Water Filter Problem and High Winds

Just as we started our trip to Yellowstone last month when our city water connection would not allow any water flow at our first stop. A quick call to CC and the question, when was the last time you changed your water filter? "Spring of 05'", I said, "but I will change it today". That solved the problem. The filter looked ok but seemed heavy, We remember our visit to a local camp ground in July 05' and things were fine but their water supply may have clogged the filter.
Who knows, but I will always carry an extra water filter and pressurize the city water side to make sure befor a next trip.

Also, high winds on I 80 in WY caused our Zip Dee awning to un roll about 4" to 6" on the slide side. Thanks goodness for Duct tape and a fellow traveler sharing their experience with high winds. The 50 MPH wind blew open the awning like a balloon without unlacthing. Seems impossible but it will happen. We made repairs with Duct tape and a platic cup over the end of the awning. As we drove on that am, we saw another RVer climbing on top of his RV to trying to fix his flapping awning.

Just a note on the awning billowing problem. I've had it also. There is a fix for it. I bought two pieces of stainless steel from a local supplier. Both are bent at 90 degree angle and have adhesive tape on one side.
Install them under the slide awning as deflectors. The wind will not be allowed to get under the awning.
If you can't find a stainless steel supplier, I believe others can direct you to a manufacturer in Junction City that also makes them.
I'm in Salt Lake City. Our local manufacturer is Stainless Steel Manufacturing on Bowers Ave. They do custom work.

Paul, I too had the awning un roll in high crosswinds. The fix was to add some more turns to the spring. Zip Dee says one turn for every foot of awning plus eight as a starting point. I added five more and have been in worse winds than before and the awning has stayed rolled up. Like said, you can add the fairing under the awning, attached with some 3M double sided tape, no need to drill holes.

You may want to add a travel lock in addition to making sure the correct number of turns were implemented during installation. 20 + 1 turn for each 12" of length. TWI 98 Allure/now 2004 Intrigue.

We had the same billowing problem a few years ago, but the Zip Dee folks at a rally added extra turns and all has been AOK since then.
We've not added the deflectors (which we were going to do) because we've never had the problem since it was tightened. Scary, though, isn't it?

But it seems to me that devices sold for the purpose are better "stops" than depending on spring pressure. By the way ... doesn't your ZipDee have the security hook in the center?? THAT should be as effective as an aftermarket device, eh?

For the three years since I put the proper preload in my awnings I have had no unfurling issues. I commonly run I-40 across Texas & New Mexico where 50 mph crosswinds are common. The spring tension seems to be enough to avoid unfurling. There does not seem to be a need for aftermarket add-ons.

The bottom line issue is why doesn't Country Coach put in the preload that Zip-Dee advises so that so many coach owners don't have to deal with this issue. When I redid mine it had only 11 turns whereas Zip Dee advised 28 turns. CC is letting their customers down when they install any aftermarket product in their coaches without meeting manufacturers' recommendations. I feel that this is the reason that owners of new coaches have to "spend a year working the bugs out".
This issue should serve as a wake up call to CC that their qc is not up to par on this very simple issue(20 minutes to correct) so how many other issues are going unnoticed?
