Exhaust manifold cracks

Yahoo Message Number: 18977
Fred: If you do a comparison, my coach number is 10762 (99 Intrigue) 350 Cummins. Engine serial #45735059. The crack in mine was between cylinders #1 and #2 as I recall. At least it was in the front portion of the manifold, right next to the dip stick tube.

Exhaust Manifold Crack

Hi, I have been a lurker for along time on this forum. I have a 2000 American Tradition and had my manifold failed also. Several in our club have had the engines on Monacos fail. There were three known big problems with the late 99, early 2000 up engines. By the way mine is a 330 hp. On many engines made in late 99 the camshafts failed. Mine was one of many.
Many of the exhaust manifolds have also failed and the new ones are a different design. When they replaced my manifold they put the engine on a diagnostic machine and determined that almost 20 parameters needed to be changed. After that every time I started the engine cold I would get a lot of white smoke. This would last until the engine ran long enough for me to have throttle control. Cummins has a set of operation parameters for when the engine is under 140 degrees. I could start the engine and then after it quit smoking I could shut it off and wait 1-2 minutes. Then when I would start it the smoke would be there. It turned out to be the coupling on the fuel pump. Several others on the American Coach forum have had the same failure. When I was at Cummins Pheonix Az. they said they had replaced dozens. Cummins now uses a new material. Just thought I would give a "heads up ". The fuel pump is actually in three pieces and they replaces the first section with the shaft.
