Braking System for Tow Car, Recommendations???

Yahoo Message Number: 1021
I'm interesting in installing a braking system for the toad. The one I like the best is the BrakeSafe that uses pulling force and uses the air pressure from the coach.

What are recommendations of people who have installed supplemental braking systems in their Toads???

I have had the Brake Buddy for a couple of years.
It gets its power from a 12 V adapter in the car and then in turn powers a small air compressor. BB uses an internal pendulum to trigger the braking action. You can set it to brake each time you step on the brakes up to only emergency braking. It also has a small transmitter that turns on a light inside the coach each time the brake is applied.
It is quite easy to install each time. The thing I like is that it does not need to tie into any other coach systems.
I'm sure there are other good systems out there, but this one has worked well for me.
Best of luck.

Al,

I do not have a braking system for my toad because PA state law does not require it for the weight of my toad. My Saturn is less than 3000 lbs. That said, I have checked into such systems. The one I would install if needed is from M&G Engineering. I like things very simple and easy to connect and disconnect on the toad. I do not know of a system that is any easier to do the above. The price is very good as well. You can check them out at www.m-gengineering.com.

We have used the Brake Buddy for over a year. My husband seems to like it and feels safe with it. Can't give you too many details on it as that is not my area!!

Al,

We have recently had installed a Roadmaster set-up. We had the Sterling tow bar, Brakemaster and Brake-a-way installed on our 2002 Allure 36' TS and Dodge Dakota. It has worked well for us so far.
The brake works off from the coach air system and is proportional with the coach braking pressure.

You may want to check out the U S Gears Unified brake system. As their ad in fmca states it does take a little longer to install but it functions very well. i like the fact that i can control the sensetivity of the toad braking from the coach as well as applying the toad brake without applying the coach brakes if and when necessary. the audio and visual warning if seperation takes place is also a plus. Good luck with whatever system you choose.
