I am not sure when and where to use the "mode" button on the transmission, the books do not explain it's function very well.

The mode button works well in situations where the transmission can stay in a higher gear and use the engine torque to crest small hills, etc. It doesn't do much in mountainous terrain where you are climbing big hills. I usually turn it on and if I notice I'm losing considerable speed on hills, I'll shut if off and let the transmission downshift. Basically what is does is delay downshifts of the transmission.

The only time I uses the mode setting is in rolling hills to keep the transmission from shifting in and out of 5th and 6th.
