Lay Flat Drain Hose

Hi Folks,

There just had to be a better type of tank drain hose. One that takes up little room and can handle wear.
Please look in the photo section under Kovol, the last photo shows a hose called Lay Flat Hose. It is 20 feet long, cost less that $20 and rolls up flat (permanant creases). It appears to be a synthetic rubberized fabric. I purchased it from an irrigation supply house.
They also had a red covered version, 3x thicker at 3x the cost. Will see how this one holds up. I use 4 inch diameter ABS pipe cut lenthwise in half to support the hose on a slant.

There is another tank drain hose that solves 1/2 of the problem. This hose is absolutely the best with respect to withstanding wear. It obviously does not lay flat so it takes up more room. However, it does take up less room than the hoses that you buy from Camping World, etc. The hose I speak of is that sold by Dupree Products. The hose is very expensive ($75.00) but it will last darn near forever. The one I am currently using I purchased in March, 1997, I'm a fulltimer and it's out and in service almost every day. Be aware that the hose made and sold by Drainmaster "appears" to be the same type of hose for a much lower price, but it IS NOT the same hose. The Dupree hose has always been standard equipment on Newells and for years was standard equipment on Bluebirds.

This would seem great if cut to the exact length. What if the hose needs to be shorter? How are the bends handled?

Hi Herg,

Good question - maybe wiggled for a shorter run. My next project - and the irrigation store has it - quick disconnects, maybe 10 foot sections and their use. I like this hose as everything fits in a 5 gal plastic bucket.

When I first got into RVing perhaps 4 years ago, I found just such a sewer hose from 'LevelUPP' of all places (saw an article or ad in a magazine). I had a tough time finding them even then (had to special order them), so they may not be available at all any more. Mine are green, have bayonet connections on each end, and each rolls up into a package about the same size as my PrestoFit universal elbow. I also got their matching swivel adapter which mates the hose to the PrestoFit elbow. Price per 10' section was $15 to $20 if I remember correctly.
