coach questions

Hello All

I'm in the market for a 36' Country Coach. I have found two super clean coaches.

One being a 2000 Magna single slide with 385 Cat, this coach looks like brand new, super low miles. Draw backs on this unit, it was order without any option at all not even in house stereo, so i would add lots of goodies, plus loaded rear axle weight is 21,500 lbs. is this normal for this model? and feels real sluggish on acceleration.
Second unit is marked as a 2003 intrigue twin slide with a Cummings 400 and fully loaded with a build date of 1-2003 but has a 2004 exterior and floor plan? did these units have over heating problems? draw backs on this unit to me not much storage inside drawers and such and it only has 78gal fresh water.
If any one has any feedback or experience good or bad please chime in we are in a limbo of witch way to go.

Mac,

I'm inclined to go with the intrigue, I think a diesel with low mileage is not good because it has sat to long. A motor coach was ment to be driven and low mileage coaches are not usually maintained properly.
If it's been garaged, thats helps with the sitting. As far as the 03 intrigue is concerned, I never heard of any overheating problems in the intrigue for any year. The 05 Magna which is what we have did have overheating problems but all that has been corrected by CC with larger and improved venting, bigger fans and a hugh transmission cooler. you should not find an overheating in any CC unless the owner did not have CC do the warranty bulletin. You can check the recalls ( which are called warranty bulletin) by checking the coach number with CC. The Magna we have is our 3rd CC, we also had a 2001 Mag and a 2000 Intrigue. We traded the 2000 Intrigue because I wanted more toys.

Good luck, Bill G. 2005 Magna #6425

I have a 2000 magna and my rear axle weight is 21400. More interesting is the fact that the right side is 10000 and the left side is 11400. I checked with C/C and that is what it weighed at the factory. The axle is rated at 22500 and in the axle manual it is rated at 23000. The only place I've seen the federal 20000 lbs weight limit in forced is the Ohio turnpike. The Cat C-10 is really 370 HP, the 385 is only in fire trucks even though C/C listed it as 385. If you put the computer on the engine you well see this and also read out any over temps. I've overheated mine once on a 114 F day on 6% grade; the second I back off and down shifted to 3rd the warning cleared. Before this coach I had a Foretravel U280 with a Cummins 8.3 300 HP and the coach grossed at 28000. Since the Magna grosses at 36900 with 370 Hp the performance is about the same.

Second thought on sluggish acceleration; make sure you can pull 26Psi of boost on the cat id. If you don't have a cat id on the coach have the charge air cool pressure checked.

Mac,

The 2004 Intrigues with the C13 did have overheating that was fixed by CC. If you do much dry camping, the smaller water tank may be of concern. If you have the power toilet, it uses a bunch of water (and sewer).

The 2004 Intrigue did not have a C-13 engine unless it was a special and I never heard of any. The C13 is the 525 hp Cat and it did not start showing up in CCs until the 05 Magna which we ordered when it was first introduced. I don't think the C-13 was available in 04. The C13 did have overheating problems but they have been corrected by CCI.`The C13 is still an upgrade in the 2006 Intrigue at a cost of $37,000.

Bill,

Well there is a 2004 Intrigue 42 Ovation with C13 sitting on my backyard driveway. They built a few very late in the 2004 model year. Mine was delivered in late June 2004. I was one of the first to experience the overheating in July 2004, the factory updates for the cooling were done in November 2004. It was a mixed blessing. Too many problems with the C13 design package and with the speed that CC brought out the 2005 and 2005 models, by this summer I will have a coach that is a full 3 model years old that I have only owned for 2 years.

Re: [Country-Coach-Owners] Re: coach questions I ordered my 04 Intrigue with the C-13 and had the 3 overheating CC service bulletins done by Beaudry in Tucson. Problem solved, awesome coach, great for "left lane" drivers! Looked at many 06 CC's at the Indio show yesterday, Allures, Intrigues and Magnas. Wouldn't swap for any of them, since CC successfully eliminated another 1/3rd of the available cabinet storage in the 40' models.

Ron,

The delivery date of your 04 Intrigue with the C-13 is interesting since my 05 Magna was delivered on July 27, 2004. They have done some strange things with the Intrigue model years. Our overheating problems were completed 3 months ago with the addition of the final item, a large transmission cooler.
We never had a serious overheating problem once we left the Southern Calfornia area but we had to nurse the coach at times on mountains and in heavy traffic. Sorry about the C-13 mistake, I forgot that they were playing around with the C-13 before they brought it out in mass on the 05 Magna. I know there was also at least one C-15 put into a coach before they found out that the 4000 transmission could not handle the torque.

Rear axle was rated at 24,000 lbs. There is no over heating with the 400.
There are problems with charge air cooler, awnings and weight on the rear axle, Check weights on the inside of bathroom cabinet over the sink.

Mac, you diden't mention price! Both rigs sound good. The Magna comes out of the factory with maney more features then other models, check the diffrence between the two. The C-9 Cat should push that rig just fine. I am a littel partial I have an 02 Magna, but when with other rigs I know Magna has more bells and whistles. Good luck. Rich Villa

Joe,

My 05 Mag has a manufacture date of 8/04, strange how an 05 and an 04 can be made in the same month. We actually ordered our Mag about 02/04 with a C-13, probably before the 04 Intrigue had the C-13.
