Mystique/Mistake info

I have been at a couple of rallys where the Mistique subject was brought up. One story at the CCI rally in Tucson was that the joint venture was "tabeled" because of the high demand for the National products. This came from a high up at Country Coach at the open forum.I later attended a Islander rally where the group was told by a high up National official that the CC people raised a stink because the Mistique was an "entry level" coach read CHEAP and that we didn't want a cheap CC. I talked to a driver for National who said they had to come up to Junction City and pick up all the Mystiques and take them back to National in CA. Something about the government getting involved saying you can't build a coach in one factory(National) and call it a Country Coach. So the National factory took them back and figures out a way to unload them. At the Islander rally, they were unveiled as "Founder's Editions" in honor of the founder of National RV. There were only 38-40 of them so they were special, never to be built again. So there you have it, three stories, two of them from managemant at the two companies, who do you believe? I will be at CC Junction City on the 26th and am going to ask what the real story is.
Having seen the Mystique I can say it does not stand up to the CC quality.

Hi Don, Very interesting comments. While at the Pleasanton RV show in January we briefly looked at the National products. Went inside an Islander (If memory serves correctly) and I was surprised to see that the steering wheel was similar to mine, sporting the large CC letters.
The sales rep told me the unit had a Dynomax chassis made in Junction City and shipped to National for completion of the house. I do not know how accurate that information was but after reading your notes I now wonder if we were actually in a Mystique that had been converted to an Islander?

Hi David,

You actually did see an Islander, they are built on the Dynomax chassis but with different components. The Mystique was only built on a Frieghtliner chassis.

Hi Damon, Thanks for the note. About ten minutes after posting my note I was looking through a Destinations magazine and there was a picture of the Mystique cockpit clearly showing a Freightliner steering wheel.
It was too late to go back and eliminate my incorrect post. I wondered how long it would be before someone put me straight. LOL Not very long at all.
First a baby girl, and now CC salesman of the year. Thanks to the latter you will be able to pay for the former.
Congratulations, keep up the good work. (hmm, do I mean the former type or the latter type?
