1998 32' Allure

My wife and I just purchased a pre-owned 1998 32' Allure with no slides. The coach is like new with 67K on a Cummins 325 diesel. I am wondering if any of you have the same year coach and know of any problems we should be concerned about.

Dave: You may want to call Country Coach and see if your coach is subject to the tire recall. They have the info and you may luck out. Some 98's and 99's are included. It dealt with the improper inflation label on the coach. The Fed's required them to replace the labels and the tires on all effected coaches.

Hello Dave,

We have a '99 Allure and have had minor problems with the coach. I do believe that units built prior to '03-04 years are much less troublesome. In my opinion, the newer coaches have too many toys and gizmos that are causing many problems and headaches fro their owners.

You already have a lot of answers but just a little more info. I have a '98 40' Intrigue that has the exact same door as you. I tried the zinc chromate twice with painstaking preparation but it too eventually bubbled under the paint.

CC has a repair kit for this. Their oppinion is that the aluminum door skin is not compatible with the steel door frame. Duh! makes sense to me. Mating dissimilar metals is how you make instant corrosion (or even electricity), right?
Anyhow they can send you a kit which replaces the aluminum skin with a fiberglass skin to eliminate the problem. Of course you have to have the new skin painted and it is a difficult job if you are not mechanically inclined. I got one from them a couple of years ago and they supplied the parts but with a '98 I imagine they would want to sell it to you now.

ANOTHER THING TO CHECK ON '98 CC's is the battery compartment. Myself and several others have had to have new square bar welded in as the steel corodes under the fiberglass battery pan. It is a pain in the butt to check. You have to remove the batteries, then remove the fiberglass battery tray and examine all of the supports. You may be able to get an indication by getting under the coach but in my case the members were nearly eaten away from the top side and did not show from the bottom. I was lucky because I caught it before any real damage 'cause a fellow CC'er told me about it at a RV ralley. If this goes unchecked you could drop a battery while going down the road and it is right in front of the rear dual tires. Get the picture? Yours may be fine but it is worth the few hours effort to check before you have a disaster.
