600 HP & fuel mileage??

Would not the extra price for the 600 HP engine exceed increased fuel cost?

Why must people always want to know M/G of any RV? In 17 months with an Inspire & 16000 miles we have spent about $4 for payment, maintenance & insurance for each dollar spent on fuel.
I continue to wonder how one could spend 2 to 4 times more per square foot of RV and question gallons of fuel used per mile. What is so fascinating in M/G?

You know, Eric, you do have a valid point, all of us have spent a major amount of money on our coach. There is just something in ones make-up, psyche, up-bringing or whatever it is, no one likes to get 4 MPG instead of the hoped for 8 MPG. Simple math is: 17000 miles driven divided by 4MPG x $3.00 a gallon = $12,750.00 spent. Whereas, 17000 miles driven divided by 8 MPG x $3.00 a gallon = $6,375.00. That is just averaging at $3.00 and probably we have averaged closer (maybe) to $2.50 per gallon. Either way I woud rather have the $6000.00 in my pocket than given to the oil company. I think that no matter what anyone spends on a coach, insurance etc, no one likes to just throw money away. IMHO, we should all expect decent mileage from whatever engine we have in our coach. Help me understand ;-) You don't want to give 6000.00 to an oil company but don't mind overpaying the manufacturer for the coach that has a depreciation factor that would scare most people. I don't refer to CC either as they are better than most brands out there :-$ I'm with Eric on this one.

I know from talking to truckers that Detoits 6"s have the best fuel milage, Cat's the best torque, and Cummins falls some where inbetween, depending on which model. The Acert Technology with the two Turbos, runs hotter, and uses more fuel, with a higher heat rise coefficient, which means more go power usually, with less polution? Cummins double over head cams and variable pitched turbos allow better breathing, which mean better efficency. Detroit doesn't try to force things and therefore has less power per cubic inch, but better fuel milage. Now we all surmise they each can do things with their commputers to make liars out of us all. How about a C13 with one turbo with 455 hp and 1750 ft lbs. If you'll look back at the tests of a Magna with the 385 hp C-10 engine and the Lexa with the 515 hp Cats the fuel milage was pretty low back then. 5.6 on the Magna and about 5 for the Lexa. If you'll look back at my previous posts, fuel costs aren't the biggest costs. Our choices are. Hey, lets all go out and buy the Dodge Van conversion with the little diesel. 15 to 20 miles per gallon at 55mph. We could use our big coaches as the Airlines use 747's for Hub to Hub travel and the little Dodges for touring areas within a couple a days radius. TWI 11731 2004 Intrigue 42'.

Before we bought our coach we pulled a 36' fifth wheel with a Ford F550 with 6.0L diesel. The truck weighed 10K and the trailer weighed 16K. We got 7mpg pulling the trailer on a good day. I'm getting 7.5mpg to 8.5mpg riding much more comfortably in our coach.
When the coach is parked I get 18mpg in the Jeep. Works for me.
