Other brands of Mhs have also eliminated the 10 gal hwh. Namely Holiday Rambler and Monoco. I guess CC is just following the rest of the industry.

Hi Bill, I am getting confused by this issue. The original post said the coach had only Hydronic heat as a means to heat the water. Taken literally this means no LPG heat source and no electric immersion heater.
If this is actually the case, the hydronic system would need to be on 100% of the time to provide hot water on demand and when it is, you are using diesel fuel. Once the fuel level in the tank gets below the safety level it will cut off, then no more hot water.

Plus you have to listen to the hydronic system cycling on and off.
The electric heater allows you to use shore power and is essentially silent when operating and saves your LPG and diesel costs, but I have no personal experience of using this source over a long period.
You mention Monaco & HR (same company now) are going to hwh. Presumably this could only be on their high end coaches as the hwh is a high cost option.
Hope we hear from Damon on this issue. Also, would like to hear from anyone using their electric water heater on a full time or extended time basis. Pros & cons?

I am jumping in on this late but will try to help. All 2002 Country Coach Intrigues, Magnas, on up have 10 gallon LP/AC water heaters whether you have Hydronic heat or not.
Some othrer manufacturers like Newmar and Monaco who offer "Hydro Hot" or "Aqua Hot" will not have a conventional water heater.
For 2003 all Country Coach products will come standard with Hydronic Heat. The Allure is the only one available with a Hurricane model that replaces the water heater. The Intrigue on up will still use the 10 gallon water heater.
There are various Hydronic heaters on the market today, some are used with your water heater and some replace it.
There could be a 2002 Intrigue with out a water heater but its highly unlikely & would be very costly. I had a customer with a 1998 Intrigue 40' non-slide that paid for a California based company to fly out here and install a full Hurricane Hydronic heater that not only runs on diesel fuel but also A/C power. He never winterizes his unit, just leaves it plugged into a 50 amp service. He also still has his gas furnace as back up.

I've used my electric water heater on my last coach - no hydronic - on 5 to 6 month trips. I never had a problem having enough hot water. Even after traveling all day and hooking up to campground power in the late afternoon or early evening we had plenty of hot water.

When dry camping the LP kept us in hot water..... no problem.

Hi Damon, thanks for jumping in. The original query came from Rob who has an Intrigue (11438 I think) that he says has no water heater other than the Hydronic unit.

It may be the suite sensation layout and maybe this is the reason there is no electric heater but I would have expected the LP heater to still be there.

BTW How is the new family addition? Are you sleeping through the night yet?

I would be very suprised if this unit does not have a water heater. The Suite of Dreams has a water heater located about half way down the roadside. The new addition is doing great and I am sleeping fine.

My 2002 Intrigue has the "Suite Sensation" floor plan with a tag axle. It does not have an electric or LP water heater. The Hurricane does it all. I know everyone here thinks I'm crazy, but that's the set-up it had from the factory.

My coach is currently at Bill Plemmons RV for the 5,000 mile service. When the service manager first took it in, he spent a good bit of time trying to figure out how CC set this one up. He's now waiting on an updated manual and schematic from CC on the Hurricane system. I'm not sure if this all or nothing system is the way to go. Any thoughts?

I have Suite Sensation # 11466 in stock and #11484 in for service, also a Suite Sensation but retail sold. Both units have the water heater located on the roadside just above the plumbing bay. The only thing I can think of is you might have the Hurricane model they are using on the 2003 Allures which has no water heater. Any chance Tim Schuyler removed your water heater before you took delivery? (lol).

Who knows what happened to the water heater. Also, you mentioned in a previous post that a Hurricane only option would be costly. Why is that? It seems since you are eliminating the conventional heater, this would help offset the cost.

In my previous e-mail I was talking about converting it after the fact, it would be costly to rework the plumbing, pull the water heater and patch the hole in the sidewall, etc.

Dave, We use our electric HWH all the time, just returned from a 2 month trip and never once used the LP except to test it once a month to make sure it works. You need to remember to turn off the electric to the HWH whenever you drain the system or you will burn out the electric element.
We have a friend who just purchased a HR Imperial and when we were looking at my coach he asked me what the grill on my HWH was for. He told me his HR did not have a conventional HWH. I'm not sure how they handle hot water when the hydronic heat is not running. His coach had a Aqua hot heating system. Hope this helps, Bill G

I just picked up my Intrigue from Plemmons. The Hurricane model I have is the C045XL. I believe it's one of the first ones CC has installed. It is supposed to be able to provide "continuous" hot water at a minimum of 106 degrees. It can provide it by way of the diesel fired burner, or by using the (2) 2000 watt 120 volt electric elements wrapped around a water jacket. The elements are actually located inside the Hurricane unit near the burner. It's good to know that now I have an electric hot water option if the burner goes out, or if I want to save fuel. According to Plemmons, CC says expect to see more of these units.
