Delorme

Just starting to try GPS navigation. Testing the Delorme Earthmate with Delorme Street Atlas 9.0 locally and find it working o.k..
However, upon maping out our upcoming trip to Junction City, I find it cumbersome, plus several of the RV parks we planned for stop-overs are not included in the program. Someone suggested AAA Map-and-Go.
Question - is it better, and does it include the audible features of the GPS? Any advise appreciated!

I have used both programs with the Earthmate. Map-n-Go has a better database of campgrounds that Street Atlas. I stopped using Street Atlas. The detail of roads, especially in cities used to be better in Streets than in Map-n-Go but for my money the Map-n-Go is the one to use.... if you already own the Earthmate. Map-n-Go does have the audible notice of turns.
I like the product but if I had to do it again I would choose a different program..... Microsoft Streets and Trips... it is a much better program but doesn't work with Earthmate. I own both programs and most often use Streets and Trips to plan things out because of the greater detail in cities and on the open road..... it also has the Woodalls database of campgrounds.

I have an older version of Delorme and I also have Microsoft Streets and Trips 2002. In the older version of Microsoft you could use the GPS receiver. Our tripmate broke and we found a handheld GPS unit at Sam's Club. It is a Magellan 330 and was just over $200 as I recall. It works great and the nice thing is it works without the computer if you get lost.

I have not looked for campgrounds a lot on it, I use AAA books or other camping books.

We will have everything with us at the CC Rally and the FMCA rally if you are going.

Also worth mentioning.... the Delorme Map-n-Go software has the AAA campground information within the program... including rates, description, directions, phone numbers, etc. One advantage that I found is that you can put your cursor where you plan to stop and query the campgrounds within 10, 20 or 50 miles of that point. It's not a replacement for my Trailer Life Directory or Woodalls but it's the first tool that I use.
