Garmin 7200 ...

Yahoo Message Number: 22282
I just got a Garmin 7200 for my birthday.

This thing is way cool ... no more complaints about not seeing the screen. The screen is larger thatn the Pioneer unit that came with our Affinity (7" diagonal). You can watch movies, etc, listen to XM radio, and play MP3 files either thru the included speaker, or via a line out jack. The XM radio requires an additional doo daa, and since we have xm already, won't be buying that goodie.

It includes the little remote, like the 2620, which is really nice when you place the unit on the dash out of reach. You could put this thing in the bedroom and still see the screen.

It is for RV/truck use only, it takes up a fair amount of space on the dash of my truck. Same mounting as the SPIII and 2620, but comes with a much larger footprint dash mount.

For you guys (and gals) that have to have the biggest, baddest accessories (like me), this thing will impress you.
Comes with a SD card slot for storing other map programs or anything else, like MP3 files. Since I hate City Nav, I load up detail maps from my old Metroguide v4 CD. Apparantly you can put you waypoints on the SD card also (called favorites now), but not sure of this yet.

Got mine from gpscity.com, I have had good luck with them over the years.

The 2620 can stay in the toad now.

Not sure if some of you folks knew it was out ... its pretty new.

Check it out at garmin.com.

The 7500 is the same as the 7200, except includes dead reckoning.
Not sure what that is, but it must be installed by a pro, and keeps your course if no GPS signal is present. I guess I don't understand why that it important, maybe someone could jump in and explain to both of us.

The size of the 7200/7500 precludes using it anywhere but in a large vehicle ... I put it on the dash of my pickup, and its blocks a big chunk of the windshield.

It works great in the MH as it sits far enough away but you can still see it very clearly. You turn off the other stuff on the display and have all map showing. The remote allows you to control it without reaching. You can spin it a bit and have your copilot use the remote to find he nearest Cracker Barrel.

I think the 2620 has a similar counterpart (2650 ??) that requires installation also.

Goto www.garmin.com and study up.

It's not cheap, but hey, your driving a Country Coach.

DEAD RECKONING allows the GPS to keep a track in the exact direction you were going before it lost signal!

The dead reckoning function connects the speedometer et al to the GPS so it can determine how far you have traveled if it loses the GPS signal. Its most useful in big metropolitan cities with lots of skyscrapers that can block signals when you need to know about turns. I don't think most of us drive our motorhomes in those conditions but many truckers do.
