new and seeking advice on buying an inspire

We are new to this group. I discovered it when we decided to try to locate a 2005 or 2006 Inspire(a search which continues). I will appreciate any tips regarding buying an Inspire and specifically what are the key points to lookout for. Thanks in advance for your comments and advice.

Just curious, does the projected cost of $4.00+ per gallon by the end of summer for gasoline and the associated price increase for diesel fuel have any impact on your decision to purchase of a motor home.

Dave there is a gentleman on this network who is selling a 2003 Allure. In my opinion a better model of CC. I have talked with the gentleman but for the life of me I cannot remember his name. I know that he has owned two CC prior to the Allure. Sorry not much help.

Thank you,

The wife and I are super happy with our new Inspire, even thought we have only less than 5,000 miles and a few trips on it their has been no warranty issues on it yet, and that is out standing in my view.
My brother-in law is on his fourth Fleetwood and the neighbors Travel Supreme both had a sheet full of warranty issues when new.
Feel free to e-mail if I can help with any questions.

Here is a short list for you:
1. Overall payload capacity (slides reduce it significantly in terms of rear axle payload capacity (20,000 lbs max). Inspires with 4 slides weigh in at over 19,000 lbs without your stuff! Does not leave alot of payload on the rear axle and forces you to be carefull when filling water and full fuel when traveling.

2. Towing capacity. They list 10,000 lbs towing capacity but this does not correctly deal with the tough weight of a 10,000 lb trailer which would need to be 1000 lbs for tough weight (10%). The maximum tough weight is 600 lbs for an Inspire. largely gated by the rear axle capacity. Can be remedied with a weight distributing hitch though.

3. Transimission cooling. Seems there is a some sort of issue that makes the transmissions for the allison (Cat c9 engine) run over 200 degrees consistently (towing or not). When in traffic, even in nuetral when stopped, the temps will rise into the 230's which is too high though they say this is within specs. Seems this issue is still under investigation....see my earlier posts on transmission analysis with CCI.

4. Dash air conditioning. Continue to fail and blow outside hot air.
Still not sure this one will work correctly.....

5. Numerous issues with electrical shorts on awning, LP detectors
defective, shower value defective, oil leak on bell housing, hot water heater flame outs, leveling system failure, poor wall paper installs to name a few of the workmanship issues that happened on our coach.
They eventually get fixed but with a lot of effort from he owner to get them to fix it.

All that said, we enjoy our Inspire now that most items are worked out but I am still worried about my transimssion longevity and continue to monitor it with the Silverleaf and will continue to provide CCI with data at their request. The air conditioning thing also is really annoying on a hot day while travelling. Forced to run the generator and turn on house AC or risk sweeting to death!

The 2003 Allure is for sale by Walt Rothermel...Spiker1029@aol. He is a friend and is having some minor surgery today so...he is not at home today..A great coach and we think a fair price for one that has nothing wrong with it...hate to see them leave us on the road. M. Lindsey
