Dash Air Conditioner

Our dash air conditioner stopped functioning and tests showed that a fitting on top of the air conditioning unit located in the rear of the coach in the engine department broke. All the freon leaked out.
If anyone else has had this problem, would apprciate hearing from you. Jim Packard

Hi Jim, I was just reading my e-mail when your message popped up. I had the very same problem, the fitting on the top of the A/C compressor in the engine compartment broke off letting all the gas out. It was just fixed yesterday and the system was recharged.

I believe this to be a common problem. It has happened to me three times allready over a year. One time the whole back of the compressor felloff with the lines. Seems there was not enough hose left to compensate for the engine torqueing/movement..

Thanks for the important message regarding your dash air. We are presently heading for the factory in Oregon to get this properly repaired and this info will be helpful. I would like to know what model and year your CC is, also where you got your repairs done. Thanks Jim Packard

Hi Jim, we have a 2001 Intrigue, 36' open galley. There really isn't any slack in the a/c hoses and I hope that this doesn't happen again.
The connections are really tight and I'm sure the vibration of the diesel is going to stress it out once more. .

We're from NJ and have been using RISCO RV Service in Atlantic Highlands. I find them to be very competent at what ever they are doing. They just took care of my latest debug list and fixed everything except the battery problem. No one seems to be able to get to that since it is intermitent and never happens in a repair shop.

Hi John,

I have a 2000 Intrigue, and have also had an incident where I lost the freon. The cause was simply a loose hose fitting on the compressor. I also know of several incidents where the fan control was at fault. This caused the air conditioner condenser to run hot enough to build up enough pressure to blow one of the hoses. If anyone is having repeat problems, the fan control might be a cause that your mechanic would have trouble finding without being told to investigate. If total freon loss happens to anyone, the dryer should be replaced at the same time they replace the freon. Denny

I've heard the same things about the fan controller. I would suggest anyone having dash A/C problems or the engine fan seems to kick up an awful dust storm to contact CC Service. Maybe they can assist you in getting those situations taken care of. Make sure wherever you go, they have the proper tools and equipment to properly check your fan controller.

Yes, there is a kit that removes the orifices in the hydraulic line. This slows down the fan from its 1400rpm to 300rpm until the engine calls for more speed when the coolant exceeds 185deg. The kit is available from CC service. I installed it myself. Pretty easy to do.

Re: My Magna 2000. I will be taking my coach in for the 7th time for dash/ocer the road ac Loose hoses and bad crimps. Seems thereis not enough of a service loop to the compressor so when the engine torques it eventually loosens up the connections.
