re Satellite Internet??

Stay away from Starband for Internet connection via satellite. Terrible customer service. Starband, was constantly a problem to keep working.
Easy to get proper aim & signal strength, hard to keep packet flow thru Starband servers. Then Starband lost one of 2 satellites, the one I could get @ home thru gap in neighbors trees. Starband did not refuse to terminate contract for lack of service, they just refused to answer my calls, emails & snail.

InternetByCellPhone@yahoogroups.com has tutorials for Internet access thru your cellphone. This uses your day minutes or night & weekend time. Only other cost is a $20 USB to cellphone cable from ebay.
Register with InternetByCellPhone & read tutorials for your cell company.
We now use a Kyocera KPC650 aircard thru Verizon for Internet access.
$60 monthly get unlimited Internet access. Downloads often run 15 to 17 K bytes / second. That is near 160kbps. Service speeds in major city areas compares to fast cable service. Works in Alltel only areas also.
Alway working in interstate without a $7000 antenna on roof.
Verizon aircard service is $60 monthly, $200 purchase, no installation cost, no roof hole or added stuff on roof. So far we have not been where an external antenna would help. If aircard were to quit, we would revert to cellphone Internet access. Both of our cellphones have digital modems & do fast Internet access using same software as aircard uses.

I have two complete Internet systems to sell. One Starband system & one commercial Direcway system. Both are post mount. We have not used the Direcway system, no experience with it.
We used a survey tripod for Starband & still do for Dishnetwork. So far we always find a view of Dishnetwork satellites.
Wild Blue is interesting but I see no advantage to being cabled to a dish antenna. Aircard works well in buildings & under trees. Only 1/3 third of Kyocera aircard protrudes from notebook without cables or modems or more stuff to carry. Verizon service will continue to improve in many ways for many customers, unlike satellite services. Verizon service is already faster than Wild Blue in cities.
Ignore me if you are 40 miles south of no where without cellphone service!

We have been using the T Mobile aircard service for three years and get unlimited internet access for $29 per month. I believe many people shy away from it because they hear that it's too slow. I think it is faster than dialup and it gets the job done. Usually with dialup you get speeds of 39KBPS, 28KPS or even 19KBPS. With T mobile, we usually get about 46 KBPS and it seems much faster to me than dial up. It has been very reliable in the lower east U.S. As previously mentioned, it works under trees and in-motion. We don't have to rely on unreliable WIFI, but use it also on wifes laptop when free and available. If all you want is internet surfing and emails it's a great service for the price. I am an avid internet surfer and T-Mobile works great for me. I don't do much downloading though, but if you don't mind waiting, you can down load large files without worring about being disconnected in the process.
