International phone card

We are going to be traveling to Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswich for the first time this summer. Not wanting to incur high cell phone charges I wondered about buying a prepaid international phone card. Anyone have any experience in this area?

Why don't you check out "onesuite.com", that is what we did and saves us a bundle! Even calling to the Netherlands for 2 1/2 cents a minute! You have to sign up and deposit money up front but it is worth it! Carl

I just modified my Verizon Wireless calling plan for my cell phones to the North American Choice Plan. It has no roaming charges in Canada, US and Mexico. It's $20 (plus tax and all the add on crap, probably brings it to $30) more than my prior America's Choice Plan.
These are for 700 anytime minutes. It is might be more of a differential if you need more minutes. When we get back we will change back to the America's Choice Plan since we won't need Canada and Mexico. Don't know if this is optimal or not but it gets the job done, as best we can tell.

Are you going with a group or solo? We just got space in a Adventure Caravans group during July. See you there!!

We were advised, and rightly so, to wait until we got to Canada and to purchase a phone card there. WOW...big diff! There are lots of different ones though so watch out for connection fees of x units, etc.
We got one at the post office in Jasper, AB that was about 3 cents a minute to call the states (CA and TX). No connection fee. Definitely wait until you get there, then the locals can advise you.

Have a great trip...

We had upgraded our cellphone (verizon) same as you, but found once we got there, that the phone cards were lots cheaper AND you could use them easily...not so the cell service! Jan Mcneill
