Looking at a New Toad-Chevy HHR

Hi All,

We are still toad shopping and looked at the new 2006 Chevy HHR's. They are a great car for the money but being lower than our Wrangler we are wondering if people are having issues towing them. If any of you ou there are towing an HHR would you let us know. We would love to chat with you. We are also looking into bike racks for it as well. Feel free to contact us offline as well.

I just sold my Jeep toad and bought a Hummer H3. You would not think that the Hummer would be lower than the Jeep, but is was. The solutions is simple and really not to expensive. The Toad to be safe must be in line with the RV receiver plus or minus about 2 inches, that is Max. I like to be within 1 inch. So I had to buy a drop receiver. The drop receiver fits into the RV and then drops down. The receivers come 2,4,6 and8 inches I believe. I bought the 8 and all work well. Got unit at Camping World, and it cost $156.00.

The next issues is if you need a drop receiver, then you add approximately 8 inches of length. This can be a issue with your safety cable. Other than that it looks great in tow, and is hard to find when apart from the RV. My neighbor is doing is Chevy now, and he has a Beaver. The Beaver receiver is lower and it does not appear that he will need the drop hitch. I have a ton of data as I added brakes at the same time. There are small issues with new electronic 4 wheel drive transmission. Let me know if you need addition info.

Make abolutey sure the unit can be towed. Do not believe the dealer, look for your self iln the manual. Without manual write up you are at risk towing.
