pretty tail pipe

My new tail pipe arrived minutes ago. It is polished 304 alloy, 1 foot long from Stainless Specialties, POB 781035, Sebastian FL 32978. Phone is 772.589.4190. 1 foot X 5" for $37 + $14.55 shipping. Could have ordered shorter for less $. Original tube is 8.5" X 5".
Original tube extends 3/4" from body & smoke gets on paint. I figure awnings are >3", so 3" might be acceptable.
To avoid more smoke on the paint, how far should new pipe extend from body?

Eric, is the end rolled? Is it straight/curved? Thanks Richard Meece

Richard,

End is not rolled in to avoid restricting flow & retaining moisture.
Did not ask or consider other possibilities. They make mufflers & lake pipes; a rolled end should be easy.

Eric,

My stainless tail pipe extends 4" outside the body. I like the looks. Nobody has ever said boo about it. I've seen others that were out there 6 or 8. Just do what makes you happy.
