Allure 2007 - Front door & Splendide, and more...

We took delivery last Tuesday. So far, quite flawless -- knock on wood. Heading over to Florence OR Tuesday, after the buyer of our Allure 2002 flys in from South Carolina on Monday.

Couple of questions:
1. The front door is very hard to close -- they have adjusted it once, and they now say that is the way it should be. Tried one other coach, and it is about the same. It is probably a trade off between air tightness and easy of closing. If I wanted to try my own adjustments, is it the screws that hold the latch, or can the post be repositioned? Still making two to four attempts to close the door from the inside, before it latches properly so that we can bolt the door.

2. Combo Splendide washer/dryer bounces and vibrates all over the
place. Originally could not open the soap tray, and they just pushed the washer to the right. Never had a balance problem with our older Splendide. Is the dryer suppose to be bolted down? Washing a load of "water" right now, and it is very smooth. I believe the washer is suppose to adjust the speed of its spin based upon vibration. As a side note, we hate some of the "new" features - - The setting of the main dial to the last step of a wash cycle to dry; a high speed spin a few minutes into the drying cycle when set to heavy cottons; door stays locked for 45 seconds when stopping a dry cycle to see if it is dry enough already -- I want in NOW, if it is drying!

Other notes:

Entertainment equipment cabinet variable speed fan is noisy and doesn't stop when cool.

CC does not know how to properly terminate CAT5 network wiring.
Wires crossed over (1 to 8, 2 to 7, etc), and wrong RJ45 plugs for solid wire. I bought the proper fittings & replaced, and they helped me pull some CAT5 and COAX to additional locations in exchange. Two computers and printer are networked in coach.

Cummins 400 Oil and transmission temps both 190 to 200 in silverleaf, and shows a little LOWER on the dumb dash guages. Very happy with silverleaf ranges. Oil pressure shows as a variable, not as a "fixed" value, like I believe was done with some ISL's.

Will get CC to re-program some of the blank spots on the IntelliTec switches. Add Fan control from side of bed. Dimmer on Vanity lights (minor rewire from relay to dimmer module in closet), Additional ceiling light control. (Fan controls in the Allure 2007 430 is a step backwards from the Allure 2002. You have to buy a 470 to get the speed controlled by temperature).

Disappointed that the RTI Universal Remote can only be reprogrammed by CC or licensed Home Theater businesses. Cal from Advanced Satellite added DirecTV HD TiVo -- and CC does not want to reprogram. RTI (and CC due to license issues) will not provide the software for my laptop to use with its USB port. Cal is not licensed. Will have to take it somewhere several hundred miles from here. Anyone with access to that software?

Welcome to the land of the Allure! We enjoy it but like everything, there are some things I'd change.

1. The entry door. Yep, is hard to close. Had the CC techs adjust it in April. Better sealing, but hard to close. We've noticed a rattle when going on down the road. Had that adjusted, but it came right back. Seems the rattle is between the locking mechinism and the peg that it latches too. Just enough space to make it rattle. A fellow RV'er gave me some cheap advise...put some black electrical tape on the peg. Stopped the rattle. When the tape wears, replace it. The space must be quite small for it only will take about one or 2 layers of tape before the door won't shut at all. Not a high tech solution, but works great. After having a coach that wasn't sealed at all and had so much air intrusion we've learned to live with the door. Our coach seals so tightly that we have to open the door or a window when doing slides or our ears pop. And when we close the door (if all the windows are closed) we hear a hiss as the coach re-equalizes pressure.

2. W/D -- I'd much rather have the older ones. But the new ones do spin faster and dry faster. It uses water in the dry cycle, but not enough to get back onto your clothes. The Spendide rep gave a good class at the Homecoming, but I forgot just why it uses the water. The door does stay locked. A safety measure that goes under the catagory of CYA. Some person opened the door and got burned so they had to make it lock so it would cool a bit. I HATE watching my clothes sit there and wrinkle! Figured out that if I don't dry them for very long, end the cycle and hang them up in the shower to finish drying they don't look like we've slept in them.
There will be water in the bleach well as well. That's ok. Empty it when adding bleach. It does move around more. In our SOB it was secured to the bottom of the cabinet. But in here, it sits in that fiberglass tray to stop any small leaks from getting on the floor. Nice feature except the unit does move about. With the tray they said it was a lot harder to level them. If you take a hold of the front of the unit and it doesn't move easily, then chances are it's level. But it shimmy's around and the cabinet wall was not tight either so they vibrated against each other. Took some left over fleese material and jammed between W/D and cabinet. Stopped the awful rattle. I guess if you took out the tray at the bottom and hooked it down, it would stop the movement.

3. cabinet fan. At least your's goes on. The thermostat was set too high on ours and never came on. Got way too hot in there and I talked to a guy with an Allure who lost his unit to a fire because of the same thing. Hubby took out the themostat and wired the fan to an outside switch so we turn it on manually. In hot weather we noticed we also have to leave the door open.

4. Our tranny temps are doing fine.

5. Don't like that univ. remote either.

6. Our 2 problems that were CC related. First, there are 2 air lines that run between the engine and exhaust. They melted. Had them repaired and some heat shield put over them. All ok now. 2nd is the heat issue with the inverter. We have to keep in contact with CC to find when they have a solution. We loose the inverter every trip if it is over 75 outside. Takes it a long time to cool enough to reset, like over night. Hubby does some creative wiring between breakers to bypass the inverter so we have 110. Thinking of getting out the battery charger to trickle charge the house and/or chassis batteries when this happens so the batteries don't get so low. Right now the only way to charge the batteries when the inverter isn't working is to run the engine. CC is well aware of the heat issue and is working on a retro fit. There is a fan in that compartment, but not doing enough.

Over all we are really happy with our Allure and it is soooooo much better than our previous SOB.

Enjoy and congrats on the new coach!

Guys at Beaudry gave me two tips.
1. When you open or close the slides stop coach, set brake, leave motor running press auto level button. Wait for green lights. Have wife go outside and leave the front door open. Press button to extend slides while she looks to make sure you do not hit power post, trees etc. After all is extended now shut off motor you keep batteries up cool engine and slides will not work without key on.

2. The easy way to close front door is to open the drivers window so air has somewhere to go. The coach is as air tight as a VW was, and I never could get door to close on it either.

Guess that is what quality gives as problem if it is too air tight you gotta be gentle.

We just purchased 2000 Magna. It's door was very hard to close. I found that the bracket at the top of the door for the gas spring was hitting the top. The door bracket was hitting the trim piece that holds the plastic tape in place. I groomed (carefully ground) aluminum trim back then touch up painted it. I end up removed about ΒΌ inch. This made a s significant difference in how hard the door was to close. You could shim the bracket out on the door, but I did not have enough bolt length. To see if this is your problem, close the door very slowly and see if the bracket hits. Also look to see if the door twists. I could see it hit and the door twist.
