Tow bar

I intend to tow my Honda Accord with my '04 Allure 40'. What do you think of the Aventa II from Blue Ox?

Ken,

We have used the Aventa II for about 3 years and are very happy with it. It is our understanding that Honda is backing away from their warranties on "toad" vehicles. I would suggest that you make a call to Honda (not the dealer) and get a letter faxed that confirms their policy first.

I did check with Honda and they said that my 2000 Accord can be towed four-down for up to eight hours. They also sent me a bulletin confirming this. However, some of the newer Accords can not be towed.

As long as you are aware that you must make the last shift before turning the ignition off from drive-to-neutral, not reverse-to-neutral. Met some folks in Texas that didn't know about that, and they lost the overdrive gear on their Accord. Our Civic with 25k of towed miles runs perfectly, but we make very sure that the correct final shift was performed.

That is correct. The bulletin reads:

? Start the engine.

? Press on the brake pedal. Shift the lever through all the positions (P,R,N,D,2,1).

? Shift to D, then to N. Let the engine run for at least three minutes, then turn off engine.
? Release the parking brake.

? Leave the ignition switch in ACCESSORY (1) so the steering wheel does not lock. Make sure the radio and any items plugged into the accessory power sockets are turned off so you do not run down the battery.

If you travel more than 8 hours in one day (including stopping time), you must stop and repeat the above procedures.

We have been using the AventaII for four years and have been very pleased with its performance. We have made the trip from Florida to Alaska and twice to west coast pulling a 5200# 1999 Chevy Tahoe with no problem. Like everything else, the AventaII requires periodic maintenance.

I have an Aventa II. I tow an '05 Acura MDX, and I used to tow a '97 Suburban using it. No problems....highly recommended.

We use the Aventa II and tow an 06 Vue. This tow bar is a great piece of equipment and does a fine job.
