Brake Inspection

Yahoo Message Number: 30213
I have a 2001 Intrigue and have been told I can visually inspect brake lining thickness myself. I've climbed under the coach several times and I can't see the linings. Am I missing something or have I been given some bad advice? I'd like to be able inspect the brakes periodically (every 5000 miles per the Owner's Manual) without the need to be taking it into the shop.

Thanks

Dave - there should be a view port on the brake housing, but quite frankly, the service life of your shoes (which is all you can see) is in the neighborhood of 150,000 miles if you use your exhaust brake corrrectly, so I'm not sure I'd worry about looking at them. When I had mine in the shop at 75K miles for a dryer cartridge replacement and lube they told be I had 80% on my brake shoes.
