Replacment DVD

Yahoo Message Number: 34534
I've just spent the last week trying to get information on a P&J DVD (part of our home theatre system) factory installed in our '06 Inspire. Couple things came to light.

1. There is no technical support on the unit, now apparently owned by a company called JAMO, who knows nothing about it. No one will fix it if it breaks.

2. There are no, yep, no, tone controls on the unit for home theatre. Don't like the treble, bass, etc., tough, you ain't gonna change it, it's hard wired in the system.

3. Saw the same unit, new in box, for $89 on ebay. So we are not talking high end.

With all that said, I suspect I am the last to know about this substandard unit and would like to know what others may have replace it with. I would really like to add a bit of bass since the Bose box takes up room under the sink and is now virtually worthless. Thanks . . .

I am in somewhat the same boat. Long story short I got water in the cabinet that holds DVD. Unit went ape, tried once to have it worked on but this is such an off brand that I am getting the feeling I should just replace unit at my expense. However, CC is going to look at unit and check leak so I have not done anything yet. ners@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Lon Sent: Monday, October 01, 2007 9:36 AM To: Country-Coach-Owners@yahoogroups.com Subject: [Country-Coach-Owners] Replacment DVD

Jim the J&D is junk... not worth replacing or spending any time fixing if the process is costing you $$$... sorry just the facts.
Likley not a water issue, water would have to spary a long way to get the DVD player wet, more likely heat that took it out, actually the water may have helped to cool if it could of reached the unit.
Which inverter do you have?

Jim if you'll pay the shipping you can have my old unit, will check model # tonight, thinking its the same as yours.

I understand, but in my cabinet the DVD is on the bottom, that is how I got the water idea, it came in so they say from the over door awning. There was a lot coming out through the corner joint. So drilled a small hole. Anyway you are right DVD is complete crap, but I am in it with CC now so I will pass on your offer, thanks for the come back and will post how I come out. I am really just wanting someone to inspect the cabinet to make sure the leak is stopped.

[Country-Coach-Owner] Electronic cabinet HD replacements, Lon here'

Lon as promised, here?s what I would recommend for your electronic cabinet, did these changes in mine and love it.
First off I would like to say at the time our coaches were built these components or types of components were not available. The home theater receiver at 3.5? in height, 2 HDMI inputs and 1 output are key. CC did the best they could with the space available. Actually the Jama product was great just not technically all there, basically no HDMI in/out puts. I waited 12 months before a low profile receiver with HDMI input/outputs became available.
When I took ownership of the coach I realized while watching DTV I could not get the theather sound though the speakers in the ceiling, the only way the ceiling speakers would work is with the DVD player. TV audio was though the TV speakers only.
Here?s what I did.

Acquired a low profile Panasonic home theater receiver with HDMI in/outputs and a Sony PlayStation III. I removed the little black box which directs the TV signal from different components. Then I altered the cabinet by removing the shelf the Black box rests on, this makes room for the Panasonic receiver. Top shelf DTV receiver, middle Panasonic receiver, bottom shelf Sony Playstation III. The playstation III was the least expensive way to watch Blu-ray movies, also was a x-mas for my kids.
Wiring; you?ll need to run a HDMI cable (12?) from the 32? LCD TV to the Panasonic receiver, this cable goes into the HDMI output on the pansonic. The DTV receiver and the PSIII both have HDMI outputs, 2-3 foot HDMI cables are needed. Connect one of the HDMI cables to output of the DTV receiver to one of the HDMI inputs on the Panasonic receiver, same with the PSIII. Connect your speakers to the Panasonic receiver the same way your Jama DVD player was wired, pay attention while disconnecting.
This setup utilizes full home theater sound and makes use of High Definition video signal from both the PSIII (DVD Player) and DTV receivers (sign up for the HD package from DirecTV). This is the way these components were designed to be used, clear crisp audio & video, it?s fantastic.
Note rear TV will not receive a DTV signal with this configuration; you would need to setup a second receiver in the bedroom, as I did, also switched out the rear TV to a 23? LCD, fit perfectly in the cabinet. This is all pretty simple to do, you can also setup a third DTV receiver in the lower compartment for patio viewing.
Hopefully some of this makes sense, I communicate much better over the telephone or in person.

Mike, I have the same DVD player in my coach (51905). If you have a solution for the POJ (Piece of Junk) DVD player/surround sound system, I would love to hear about it. I have an extensive DVD movie collection but have to run a lens cleaner in the unit after every one or two movies to keep it from stuttering or locking up. Would LOVE to replace it with something that is not so sensitive/lousy.

John see my post ?electronic cabinet HD replacement ? it may seem like a big project, it?s not very simple.
Problem is the Jamo DVD player is also a receiver which handles the sound into the ceiling speakers. You would not be able to just replace the DVD player, actually I guess you could however you would only listen the audio from the TV itself, no home theater.

So that is why my sound is so bad. I thought it was the CD, and kept changing them, so would play and some would not but the sound would just go off the wall. Thanks, now I know I am screwed.

I removed my unused VHS unit, put in a new Sony DVD player and plugged it into the former VHS inputs on the Jamo and now all my disks play perfectly and the sound on the dvd is excellent as well. I can make the dishes rattle without distortion.

Mike, does the Jamo DVD also have a built in amp or is it powered by the Pioneer in dash radio mess?

Mike, what Panasonic unit did you use? I have made some other system modifications to allow viewing DTV and DVD on the rear TV (although not in high definition) but it sounds like the DVD player you replaced the Jamo unit with would still work with my modifications.

R.D. the Jamo does have a built in amp, as I said it's a good product with limitations. As Tom states you could just replace the VHS with a new DVDplayer and use the same inputs on the Jamo, problem is no HD, they're composite inputs (low quality audio/video using a high quality TV), red/white for audio, yellow for video.
Your in dash system whatever brand, is separate from your entertainment system, TV/DVD/VHS whatever. However somewhere in the coach the ceiling speakers tie into the our in-dash radio/gps... just not in the electronic cabinet.
I'm all about the HD stuff, we have the best homes on the road, we may as well have the best electronics, right?

I find the Jamo not working most of the time. I contributed this the water that came into the cabinet. The issue is there is often no voice to the movie, and that can come and go. If I just replaced the Jamo where in the heck do you find it? I looked them up and there seem to be a speaker maker. Thanks for your help!

In lies the problem Jim, there is no replacement as I could find, the Jamo product line is long gone. Now the issue is finding a home theater receiver/amp with a built DVD player, home theater type receivers typically do not have built DVD players let alone finding this type of receiver that would fit into the space required, 4 inches in height, most receivers are 7".
Today Panasonic has 2 low profile recievers (299.00 & 399.00) with the HDMI in/outputs, however no built in DVD player. These HDMI in/outputs are what's needed to view a High Defination signal. Now with a few alterations to your cabniet an adding a HD DVD player or Blu-ray disc player, you'll be set.

Or you can have my Jamo as a replacement.

Mike I use the coach part time, and then watch maybe one movie a trip. I will buy you Jamo. Let me know and I will send up check.

PS There is always a reason for someone not doing something, this explains why the service center didn't touch this, there was no solution.

Lon,

Have you taken a look at any Sony systems? Last I checked, they sold several units that were combination DVD Player/Home Theater Receiver, with HDMI inputs/outputs. You can see all that they've got, here:

http://tinyurl.com/2vwhey
The systems come with speakers (which you obviously wouldn't need), but even so, they're pretty cheap. Our Newmar has a Sony (combo DVD/VHS/Home Theater, but without HDMI) that works great, sounds great, and is very "slim".

Worth a look, anyway.
