Engine/Transmission and GPS Displays

Hi Owners,

For those of us who would like large displays to monitor engine and transmission parameters and also present location on the same display, you might be interested in the 3 attached photos. The first photo shows engine and transmission displays using a junction interface box purchased from Silverleaf Electronics (the software is free downloaded from their web site).

Note that engine oil temperature is shown as well as other parameters I selected as well and the default displays. A notebook with a 12.1" TFT display is being used mounted on an aluminum frame with 2 12vdc fans mounted on the undersize so the notebook doesn't fry on the dash in the sun.

The second photo shows the MH location on a map.
Delorme StreetAtlas ver 9.0 is the application used for the map, route loading, voice direction, etc. The GPS used to drive the map display is a Garmin 17N antenna/receiver mounted against the inside of the roof just to the right of the front TV. The data lines are connected to the notebook serial port (USB port can be used with an IOGear adapter)and power is 12vdc from the hot side of the ignition solenoid located behind the right front dash access cover. I added a minature on/off switch mounted in a hole in the center of the slide control panel.

The third picture shows a split display using the windows capability.

Great pics of the laptop display.

BTW, how closely does the engine hours and miles recorded by Cummins and displayed by Silverleaf match the miles and hours on your odometer and tach.

My tach shows about 100 less hours and odometer about 2000 less miles. I suspect that the dealer had the odometer and tach disconnected for trips to shows, etc.

Can anybody else comment on their experience with engine vs dash differences in tach hours and odometer?

Hi Herg,

The Displays for miles and engine hours will be the same unless the Cummins laptop was connected for monitoring, hp upgrade, or other use; in that case the ecm data to the Silverleaf displays restarts at zero. Cummins to have an ECM fix out in October 2002, how it will get installed is another issue.

Thanks!

My oil pressures map very closely.

Glad to see that your engine temp dash gauge reads higher than the Silverleaf too. It worried me after I had the fan fixed that it was showing over the "max op temp" for the Cummins of 212 degrees.

Looks like I will need to have a word with Guaranty RV of Gilroy about how long they had the odometer disconnected.
