Livingston, TX - Titusville FL

I need to call on everyone's experience! We will be wintering in Florida this year with some friends who are already on the east coast.
Currently, we're at the SKP park in Livingston, TX, and will be heading east on Thursday. Does anyone have any favorite parks or things to see/do along the I-10 corridor? Or is there a better route? I've heard I-10 is terrible. Thanks to all for your suggestions; we've never been in this part of the country.

Friends,

I-10 is bad through Beaumont, Tx until about Jennings, La. I suggest stopping in the Lafayette area and go to dinner at MULATE'S in Breaux Bridge. It is a great experience. Ph. 337 332-4648.

If you have time take Hwy 90 south through New Iberia, La and take the Tabasco tour.

Suggest using rvparkreviews.com as your park guide.

Thanks, Mike - 03 Allure 1st Ave

We just came from Naples FL and are dashing back to Palm Springs area in California after spending an extended time on a trip across the northern USA, Canadian Maritime and 90 days down the east coast.
We had read reports in the past about I-10, and were worried about rough roads based upon older posts in this forum. I was pleasantly surprised. There was construction -- some nicely completed, some in progress with narrow lanes (wife did not like to drive these) -- but to me it was otherwise fine. My hate-list is US-2 through VT, NH and Maine; the bridge expansion joints in Newfoundland Canada (down the hill at 50, slow to 20 across the bridge at the bottom, then start climbing the next hill -- always get 7.2 to 7.9 mpg on a tank, but there I only got 6.5 mpg); and I never liked I-80 between CA and Reno NV, when I use to live near there.

Here is my Datastorm trip log from Naples via I-75, I-10, straight via I-12 (instead of dipping down to New Orleans), and I-10 to Kerrville TX (Buckhorn) where we are now. Normally don't drive that many miles per day, nor that many consecutive days, but we are dashing back to our snowbirding place. We are staying an extra day in Buckhorn Lake RV Resort (site 6080), then will continue our dash on Monday to California. (Reverse chron order below)

11/29/2007 Thu Kerrville, TX, Buckhorn Lake Resort Drove 275 miles to Buckhorn RV Resort in the hill country near Kerrville TX. Beautiful resort, all decorated for Christmas. We will stay here for three (changed to four) days. Friday we will backtrack to San Antonio River Walk and Saturday we will visit a local German community.

11/28/2007 Wed Houston, TX, Lakeview RV Resort Drove 330 miles today to Lakeview RV Resort on the south side of Houston, TX. We decided to push it today so that our drive tomorrow through San Antonio to Kerrville will be shorter. We plan to stay of Kerrville 3 nights and backtrack to the San Antonio River Walk by car.

11/27/2007 Tue Livingston, LA, Lakeside RV Park Drove 253 miles today to Lakeside RV Park near Livingston, Louisiana. We will get our first frost on the car tonight, but the weather is beautiful.

11/26/2007 Mon Milton, FL, Milton Gulf Pines RV Park Heading to California after seven months away. Drove 338 miles today to Milton Gulf Pines RV Park, D6, near Milton FL. Yes, this is actually a KOA. Surprise. Hurricane Ivan blew over all the pine trees a few years ago. Now they are satellite friendly, with short palm trees. Clean park. Maybe should be now called Milton Gulf Palms RV Park...

11/25/2007 Sun Orange Lake, FL, Orange Lake RV & Golf Resort Heading to California after seven months away. Drove 289 miles today to Orange Lake RV & Golf Resort. $28 compared to the St Petersburg KOA at almost 3x the price -- still bugs me! And this is much nicer! Monday we head to the west end of the Florida panhandle.

11/16/2007 Fri Naples, FL, Pelican Lake Motorcoach Resort We drove 170 to Naples FL for a eight night stay at Pelican Lake Motorcoach Resort on a beautiful lake side cul-de-sac with brick pavers and patio furniture. This is costing us less money per night than our lousy KOA site in St Petersburg! We are spending the time visiting my daughters family and 6 year old grandson during this Thanksgiving week. It will be lots of fun.

All of the above parks were very nice, and also satellite friendly.

We will be back at Desert Shadows RV Resort in Cathedral City by December 8th.

Normally I would have replied directly to Rod, but I wanted to dispute/update the observations about I-10. But it is all in the eyes of the beholder.

I would stop in Lake Charles and eat at SteamBoat Bills. Great, fresh seafood.

There is a great State Park, on the beach, to stay a couple days in the Florida Panhandle near Destin. Top Sail State Park, Santa Rosa Beach. We got the recommendation from CC friends and checked it out. You wil not be disappointed. All info at ttp://www.rvparkreviews.com Have a great trip.

First, let me enthusiastically second the recommendation to eat at Mulate's in Breaux Bridge. Some of the best food and most wonderful folks we've ever enjoyed.

For an RV park, check www.bettysrvpark.com/ . We haven't been there in several years but it was great.

Good luck on I-10. Many RV manufacturers use it as an off-road test track.

Go 10 miles east of Lafayette and eat at Pat's in Henderson. We always time our trips so we can eat at Pat's. Pat even told us that we could park on his lot if we needed a place to spend the night. Great Cajun seafood. We were on I 10 six times a couple of years ago and stopped at Pat's each way (6 times0 in about two months.
