Water Temperature Guage

I have a '98 Intigue that has a Datron H2O guage that is oddly graduated. It is graduated at 100/130/150/180/240. The 150 is straight up. The engine normally runs at 180, but will rise in hot weather & climbing hills. Only a guess what the temperature is as there is no graduation between 180 & 240. Do all Intrigues have this guage? Does CC offer a better guage?

Thanks for any info..............

Hi Steve,

Those gauges are frustrating as to their graduations and accuracy. There are two after-market companies that provide for accurate readout to 0.1, one is Silverleaf Electronics, please see message 2110 for an example.

My 2002 Allure #30690 has a gauge with 100/160/220/250 and a mark straight up at, I presume 190. After the fan control fix, the water gauge runs hot and the transmission is now normal. Just replaced the gauge, and it still reads 18-22 degrees high -- around 220. The Cummins Insite monitor, and of course the Silverleaf which reads the same data, is much more accurate (we presume the sensor is reading correctly) and much more responsive. Temps around 198 and will easily cool 15 degrees within 2 minutes of idle, while the CC gauge has only dropped a few degrees. I was told by CC, that their gauge is mounted in a hotter part of the engine. I have to trust Cummins that they are happy with the location that Cummins has put the sensor.

BTW, I just had the compressor replaced on the recall yesterday.
Even quieter now. Can't hear the compressor turn on/off.

My first automobile was a used delivery van. It had speedometer and two idiot lights, one green and one red. Green came on temporarily until engine started. I Never did see the red illuminated. Tire pressures were checked by looking and kicking.
I was happy as a clam, never broke down on the road (except when I ran out of gas which was frequent as I didn't have enough money to keep the fuel tank well stocked), life was great.
Then I traded for a real car (well used) and that one had a temperature gauge and oil pressure gauge. All of a sudden I found myself checking the oil pressure frequently and looking at the water temperature while tapping the glass to see if the reading would change.
Now I have a diesel MH and life has got really complicated. I have to worry about oil sensors, air pressure, oil pressure, water pressure, dust storms, tire pressures, axle weights, generators, recalls, sewer issues and much more.
Sometimes I wonder if my life is going in the right direction. LOL
