SilverLeaf VMSpc

Yahoo Message Number: 2375
Just received the VMSpc from SilverLeaf. I figured I would get the interface cable with a connector that plugs into the rectangular 12 pin dianogistic connector just above and to the left of the steering column on the forward bulkhead. Receive the interface cable with a round 6 pin Deutsch connector. Round peg won't fit in rectangle hole.

I called Silver Leaf and they advised that all country Coaches use the round connector and it is somewhere in the front part of the coach. I have looked under the dash, in the compartment in the left control console, the compartment in the dash on the passenger side and even in the hydraulic/air service compartment below the driver.
Nothing that I can see that will fit the round connector. I called Country Coach and they said it was in the side compartment in the control console to the left of the driver's seat. I looked again and see nothing. Anyone have any ideas or use the VMSpc on their coach? Where is the darn connector? If it is not there how did you connect it? SilverLeaf did not even send any schematics. For $400 you would expect a little more professionally manufactured interface cable harness. Wire markings rub off, poor strain relief at cable connectors, wires bundled together using cable ties every 18 inches instead of a sleeve covering everything.

Jim, there is a round key receptacle to the left of the drivers seat on the slope of the hump. There is a small key that fits it and I assume that is what you are looking for. Do you have the pushbutton gears on top of the console? Follow that hump to the rear and then down the slope and you should come to the round receptacle.

The key recepticle you speak of I think is the ECM reset and not a connector. I talked to someone else at CC after I sent this email and they advised that they splice it into the rectangular connector's wire harness. Go figure. Now I need the pin out, schematic or nomenclature for each wire in the VMSpc cable harness.

Right now, trying to get SilverLeaf to answer the mail or return phone call. Everything should work once I figure this part out.
Just frustrating. Would like to get it all installed as a project for Saturday.

thanks for the reply

Good luck! Sorry my idea was not the item you were looking for. Do not rush! If you are not able to accomplish it on Saturday big deal! Better then making some incorrect splices and/or cuts!!! On Fri, 26 Jul 2002 10:24:33 -0000 "kc4fws" kc4fws@...> writes:

Found the following post while reading old posts. I too am interested in getting the VMSpc for my rig and have not found a round plug in the area around the driver, has anyone found the round plug or is everyone using the retangular plug use by Allison folks when checking electronics for the transmission? Also, have you found the VMSpc a valuable addition?

Hi Jim,

In many threads I have discussed the use of the $400 box.
First I found the round connector hanging out on one side of the 3" square column that is about 7 inches behind the steering column and about 13' up from the carpet, it may have been tucked inside the barrier.

I added shrink tubing and plastic tie wraps at the connector ends for reinforcement. I use winXP pro and size the screen to get 4 displays simutaneously - Street Atlas 2005, Silverleaf, tanks quantities and Opera via Wifi when in distance. I like the $400 box approach and the applicaion is free and is periodically updated with the latest displays and user inputs based on his user group's requests - be sure to join his user group.

In my Inspire, the connector was located behind an opening under the transmission shifter buttons and other switches by the drivr's seat.
Maybe they did that to your coach also, Jim?

Also...Users group...is it a Yahoo group? Sure could use some contact with other users of the program.

Travman,

Since I wrote that post I have intergrated the VMSpc successfully.
The round plug in my coach is only located to the aft bay on the passenger bay where the fuel filters are located. The rectangle plug under the dash is tied into the same ECM data stream system.
Since Sliverleaf did not provide any interface connector, I cut off their interface connector and tapped into the wiring. Works great! Especially while on a 3 month trip and the coolant temp sensor went out. I was able to monitor the temp using the VMSpc until I was able to replace the sensor.

Jim,

Don't you need the allison Plug so that Allison people can do their diagnostics the transmission electronics. The first time I took my coach in to Allison the reset the memory in the transmission electronics using that connector. I would like to get a recepticle that would match that plug then wire it to the VMS interface rather than cutting that connector off, I will talk with Silverleaf to see if they know where I can get a matching plug for the existing allison plug.

Thanks

I did not cut off the Allison plug. I cut off the VMSpc plug that came with it. I then stripped the wired and tapped into the Allison connector wiring without cutting any of its wiring.

If your coach is like mine, you do not have a round plug under the dash. I looked all over and then talked to CC and they confirmed, "NO Round Plug".

If you insist on using the VMSpc connector, then your only option is to build an adapter pigtail that will connect between the VMSpc round connector and the Allison rectangle connector. Of course, I think this is overkill and would recommend what I did.
