Slide leak 2001 Affinity, fixed I hope

Yahoo Message Number: 39925
A thank you to all that emailed me regarding the slide leak on our 2001 Afinity, cc 6004.

This leak was wetting the carpet just inside the slide at the front of the slide, only when the slide was out.

We ran the slide out, clamped the awning with some quick clamps and duct taped them to the brackets. Removed the awning from the slide only and laid it back.

Where the slide outer wall meets the box, there was a ton of rust and loose caulk. The caulk was mostly intact in the deep channel between the angle iron and the outer lip of th slide wall, but it was loose.
We scraped off all the old caulk, sliced into the deep caulk bed and estracted the old caulk in there. then wire wheeled the area to remove some of the rust, expose new metal and clean fiberglass. then wiped down with mineral spirits.

Based upon advice here, I used 3M 5200 the fast set. wow, that seems like some super tough stuff and it should be for the price.

This job took us most of the day, and it was a bear.
Based upon the condition of the caulk that we found, I think we found our problem.

If this gets it, I will do the bedroom slide too, which has not yet leaked. It required about 2.7 tubes of caulk to do the main slide.

This is probably old news to everyone on here, but thought I would post just in case and to say thank you to you all.
