Unexplained loss of Aqua Hot fluid

I have an Allure '05 that was been losing fluid since purchase. I could never see a leak but the fluid level would gradually drop. I replaced a gallon or more each year. Last week after running the engine I noticed fluid coming from the Aqua Hot bay. There was fluid on the floor of the right side of the unit. A tech in Bend, Oregon suggested that the drain valve assembly was prone to causing leakage.
He suggested that I fill the unit with water and fire up the diesel burner after removing the cover from the Aqua Hot. As soon as the temperature came up, the leaking began. It was apparent that the drain assembly was leaking. The asssembly consisted of a plastic 1/2 inch connector screwed onto the tank. That connector had a slip connection on the other end into which a piece of 1/2 inch pex pipe was inserted.
A plastic valve with a slip connection was connected to the other end of the pex pipe. The slip connections were, indeed, slipping so easily that when under pressure would easily leak.

After draining all the fluid, the assembly was replaced with brass parts including the valve. The fluid was returned. No leaks yet. I think the problem exits for many of us. If your unit loses fluid check it out.

Hi, I had the similar problem with a 04 Allure. My problem was the drain valve just to the left of the burner. This is or should be a recall replacing the plastic with brass. The plastic get brittle and crack and then leaks. Mine was replaced last year.

Hello Charles, My 2006 loses fluid rapidly also. I wanted to check the fittings you describe but on my unit the main cover is pop riveted in place. Did you have to remove all the rivets before exposing the drain assembly? Maybe I'm missing something here!

No you do not remove pop rivets. There are four sheet metal screws or maybe more. The unit is, as I recall like two shells. The cover comes off, and the valve is easily seen on the bottom right side as you face the unit. Getting it out is another issue. There is a post on file detailing the removal, if you can't find it let me know, I saved a copy.
