Problems with 3M front mask

Problem...3M mask on front of coach has gotten progressiely worse with what look like little cuts in the material and then milddew forming under the film. On the 3M web site in the FAQ's they state the mask can be removed in a single piece or large pieces. But in speaking with an installer(Creative Coach), they tell be it is difficult to remove...needing to be heated and then only coming off in small strips. They say a very time consuming and costly operation. Just how costly I'll know when they give me an estimate. However, they say the paint will be just fine...no damage...once the old film is removed.
Anyone have experience with this? And why would some fail and others of same ventage not? Application? Dealer even installed it on our Mini Cooper.

I am having the exct same problem and have a call into the outfit in Junction City that installed the stuff. I called last Friday and am still waiting for a reply.
As for removing it, due a mistake by my spotter (ahem) I damaged a place on the side. I scored the offending section and peeled it off with only moderate effort. The adhesive came right off with laquer thinner and the paint is fine.
I am told the #m company warrantees the paint protector for 4 years. I am trying to get mine replaced - if they have improved the product and it won't crack again.
BTW, I have mold growing in the cracks indicating it is through and through the film.
It wasn't hard enough to take off that I would pay a big amount of money to have it done.

If you do a Yahoo Country Coach Owners web search "3M", you will get a series of discussion comments including mine (39040) about the problems, methods, difficulties and 3M's position. I had generation 1 film and they are using generation 3 film today (supposed to be much improved). Removal ease/difficulty seems to be related to generation and age. I did it and am really glad to get it off (beautiful front end again), but haven't decided to replace it yet.

Joe, I can only report second hand that people that know what they're doing can can pull the 3M mask off all at once and it's not the big deal Creative Coach is making of it.

Thanks for the info. However, after searching the CC message files for some time using over a dozen combinations of 3M, nose-guard, invinca-shield, warranty, replace, and several other key words I can not find the 3M position on the first generation film. I then tried Google with no success in learning the 3M position either, As I am trying to get some assistance on this knowing the 3M position will put me in a better position to argue.

Could you please offer a URL or explain the 3M position to us?

I saw a Lazydays tech removing the 3M film from a coach about 5 years ago and almost all the paint came off with it! The whole front end had to be repainted. Obviously there is some important trick to getting it off without damaging the paint!

I did a lot of research, asked a number of people about the removal of the film, Internet, pro shops, race folks, etc. One shop that is an authorized installer told me about the different generations of film and I'm not sure that I have necessarily seen that information in any of the Internet search results. here is one 3M link that may answer some of your questions....

For our situation, I tried quite a number of methods and tools and finally developed a technique that is similar to what some shops have done. I used a heat gun over small areas (15 secs), scrapped/peeled with plastic paint scrapper, and then the hard part was to remove the remaining adhesive. I used a spray applied 3M Adhesive Remover, scrapped with the plastic paint scrapper, then soaked a rag with same to remove the final adhesive. Looks great and did not damage the clear coat at all. I forget the probable total time, but more than 40/50 hours and a couple of beers spread over several weeks. Had a lot folks stopping by to inquire, opine, and offer condolences.

CC sent me to the folks who installed the covering for the factory. Nor-Tech has not returned my calls.
The website you provided says warranty problems should be handled through 3M so that is where I will start.
